About The Role

We are currently designing the next generation of Digit in order to address customer needs at commercial scale. The Electrical Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will be responsible for managing, growing and inspiring part of our talented team of electrical engineers. He/She will work closely with electrical, mechanical, software, test and manufacturing teams, to conceptualize, specify and implement electrical architectures for new product developments as well as oversee sustaining engineering activity. You will collaborate with a multi-discipline team of engineers to understand the unique requirements for our products and play a key role in ensuring that we have robot designs that are robust and production-ready. Execution with a sense of urgency is a must.

This position can be based either within commuting distance of our Salem, OR headquarters or remotely on the West Coast, with a preference for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area.  For remote candidates, regular travel to Salem, typically 1-2 weeks per month, will be required.

 

About The Work

  • Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of electronic subsystems used in Agility’s products and calibration and test equipment
  • Maintain documentation of requirements and specifications
  • Negotiate requirement feasibility and trade-offs with multiple stakeholders
  • Work with talented cross-functional teams to drive innovative, elegant solutions that meet these requirements
  • Manage hiring and performance reviews for electrical engineering group
  • Manage engineering activities including tasks, schedules, design process and design reviews
  • Be responsible for delivering outstanding results within schedule and budget
  • Promote and contribute to a safe, collaborative work environment.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers
  • Promote the use of best practices, design standards and quality documentation

 

About You

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience working as an engineering manager
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Experience in embedded controls, high-speed differential signaling, microcontrollers, memory buses, digital design, and power electronics
  • Experience with testing and system integration
  • Excellent track record of designing PCBAs with excellent manufacturing test capabilities
  • Excellent understanding of PCB layout and design techniques for EMC compliance
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and team development
  • Ability to be on-site at Agility’s design facility as needed (minimum 4 days per month and as needed to support design activities, reviews, prototype testing, etc.)
  • Experience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors
  • PLM and PDM experience
  • Broad design experience relevant to robotics: embedded systems, high-speed signals, servo drives, Ethernet/EtherCAT, cameras, Lidar, IMU, CPU/GPU integration, etc.

Preferred to have:

  • Advanced degree with robotics experience
  • Altium and Zuken E3 experience
  • Understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.) 
  • Jira/Confluence experience
  • Engineering verification test development and execution
  • Experience with PCI ExpressⓇ, USB, Ethernet, EtherCAT, and other high-speed differential interconnects
