Airbnb was born in 2007 when two Hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 4 million Hosts who have welcomed more than 1 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, Hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

The Director of US and International Policy Communications is part of the Airbnb Corporate & Policy Communications team and serves as global communications strategist and spokesperson on public policy and regulatory issues relevant to Airbnb’s business and growth, with day-to-day oversight of the company’s policy narrative.

You will report to the Director of Global Corporate & Policy Communications and work with regional Communications and Policy leads on strategies, campaigns and crisis communications around challenging issues that could impact Airbnb’s legitimacy and growth (e.g., overtourism, taxes). You will work with our polling team to refresh our global narrative to address our post-pandemic policy challenges, positioning Airbnb as a constructive contributor. In particular, you will focus on the economic challenges facing people and governments for which our platform can provide a partial solution. You also will serve as a global spokesperson on policy matters as needed.

Examples of specific projects and initiatives that you’ll drive at the global level:

  • Refresh how we talk about the economic empowerment and tax revenue our platform provides.
  • Identify ways to build policy angles into product launches (e.g., flexible search as a way to redistribute tourism), connecting those angles to our overall policy narrative.
  • Work with the Policy team to flag and advise eTeam on company stances on politicized social issues around the world.

You must be comfortable and confident working with both executives and journalists, working cross-functionally and navigating departments, and executing on both tight and long-range deadlines; and you must be an effective communicator who can explain complex ideas in straightforward, accessible ways.

The role is full-time and open to Directors on the Policy & Communications team based anywhere in the world, but you must be primarily available during US business hours and occasionally available outside of normal US business hours.

  • Oversee use of platform data for policy purposes and manage the Corporate Communications Narrative & Data team
  • Develop or contribute to written materials: op-eds, presentations, messaging guidelines, Q&As, briefs, presentations, talking points, etc

Experience

  • 15+ years experience in communications involving policy, regulations, corporate, and crisis management
  • Ability to lead and drive initiatives, solve problems, and influence decision-making cross-functionally
  • Conducted, synthesized and applied public opinion research, third-party research, and message testing to communications strategies
  • Experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams
  • Best-in-class verbal and written communicator
  • On-the-record experience with media
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and attention to detail
