This position is employed by Airbnb Inc., however the role will provide direct support to Airbnb.org, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on emergency response and provides temporary housing for people in times of crisis. Airbnb.org is governed by an independent Board of Directors and its mission is to unlock the power of sharing space, resources, and support in times of need. From Alaska to Zimbabwe, hosts have opened up their homes and helped provide accommodations to over 250,000 people. The Difference You Will Make:

 

You will play a critical role in building the user experience strategy and executing all of the design and product efforts across Airbnb.org. You will be responsible for designing user experiences and products that help drive community engagement and scale our housing platform to new use cases and sources of funding. You will work collaboratively with our small cross-functional teams within airbnb.org: product, engineering, writing, marketing, operations, emergency response, fundraising, legal, as well as the larger design and writing teams within Airbnb Inc. Together with these partners, you will develop concrete creative solutions to sometimes vague or ambiguous problems.

 

A typical day

  • Support and shape the evolution of the Airbnb platform from a design perspective; ensure consistency with, and contribute to, our brand architecture and product architecture. 
  • Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientist, Researchers and Writers to define problems & goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and launch new products and services.
  • Identify user needs and translate business goals into product opportunities.
  • Facilitate concept explorations to drive bold and innovative thinking.
  • Create wireframes and prototypes that illustrate key product interactions.
  • Interpret and distill complex strategies and requirements, and visually depict the ideal user experience.
  • Have deep understanding of design systems and interaction patterns to ensure brand, visual and interactive cohesion across products, platforms, and scenarios.
  • Influence leadership decision making through a clear point of view and define and solve highly complex problems autonomously. 
  • Build strong relationships with leaders inside and outside of core product teams; strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills.
  • Have a keen understanding of the technological, business and user opportunities and constraints. 
  • Scopes project work (in partnership with PMs and engineers) and helps define the design process and timeline.

 

Your expertise:

  • Designer/Design Leader with 10+ years of experience with product design.
  • Outstanding portfolio demonstrating best-in-class design strategy and UX design.
  • Excellent visual, interaction and/or service design skills —a master in their field.
  • Systems-thinker who thinks beyond the pixels and designs for offline experiences.
  • Ability to think both strategically and operate tactically, concept through execution
  • Ability to translate consumer insights, data, and strategy to creative writing solutions
  • Defines the design direction and process and can lead others through it.
  • Can accurately scope their work as well as their teammates.
  • Can effortlessly motivate and drive small to medium teams to transform a product.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills—you can effectively communicate and defend your recommendations and decisions with data.
  • Empathy for hosts, guests, and donors, and empathy for individuals on your cross-functional team.
  • Experience working in Figma, our primary collaboration tool.
  • Passion for Airbnb.org’s mission and purpose.

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
