Job Description:
Airbus is looking for Sr Legal Counsel - Employment Law to join our HR Legal Counsel Team.
This role is able to work remotely within a commutable distance from our Mobile, AL; Atlanta, GA; Herndon, VA; Miami, FL; or Wichita, KS offices.
About the Role:
You will provide counsel on a variety of US legal topics, primarily labor and employment matters, to Airbus companies across the US. Serving as a project leader and labor relations advisor on a range of corporate special projects upon request. You’ll also engage with management and HR teams to provide guidance and direction to achieve a positive employee relations environment at all Airbus companies in the US.

Your Challenges:
Labor and Employment Legal Support: 45%
Manage employment law related activity for US entities in alignment with the Sr. Legal Counsel for Labor and Employment.
Support the investigations and activities of the People Matter Network, including the Employee Relations Managers for the Mobile Manufacturing Site, AAI Commercial and Affiliates and Airbus Helicopters related to People Matter investigations, Discipline Committees, and mitigations;
Identify, assess and recommend risk mitigations to address widespread or systematic concerns related to HR E&C and Workplace matters. Provide quarterly reporting of concerns raised, perceived trends and mitigations put in place or recommended.
Draft, support the negotiation and legal review of Executive Employment Agreements, Retention Agreements, and Severance Agreements.
Execute the design/implementation/review of HR policies needed for the proper deployment of the transaction in all HR areas, with particular focus on the simplification and governance around HR policies and procedures in the US One Roof.
Develop and deliver trainings for executives, management and HR stakeholders, with focus on maintaining compliance requirements and understanding of key employment law topics.
Manage guidance and support to HRBP teams on local employee relations topics, leave cases, employment law claims and risk mitigation opportunities.
Labor Relations Support: 30%
Facilitate training, techniques and strategies that are consistent with NLRA / RLA regulation and rulings and also apply positive administrative and organizational principles to enhance employee relations.
Manage the negotiation and traditional labor relations of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for relevant US third-party representatives, specifically the CBA governing the ATC simulator technicians.
Manage labor relation issues, campaigns, organizing responses, and petition filings in the US in alignment with the relevant HO HR and Employee Relations focals.
Special Projects: 15%
Manage special legal projects as assigned by the Sr. Legal Counsel for Labor & Employment/HR E&C and VP of HR & Workplace for North America, including but not limited to, acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, labor contract negotiations, contract analysis, US federal employment and labor law and regulation.
Leadership: 5%
Lead and provide support and guidance to Airbus Americas, Airbus Helicopters and Mobile Manufacturing Site Employee Relations team members.
Other Duties as Assigned: 5%
Support management of all labor relation issues in the US, under control of HO Employee Relations. Direct outside legal counsel and internal HR teams in legally compliant labor relations campaigns. Identify techniques and strategies that are consistent with NLRB regulation and rulings and also apply positive administrative and organizational principles to enhance employee relations.
With an understanding of international labor laws, analyze and research the legality of a Works Council approach in the US while remaining compliant with the NLRA. Support HO Employee Relations to work closely with the internal Social Policy teams in Europe to maintain strategic alignment on labor policy, utilizing US labor law precedent where applicable.
Your Boarding Pass:
Required:
A Juris Doctor law degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
Admission to the bar in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, or Oklahoma.
Current with CLE credits.
10 or more years engaged in the practice of law with an emphasis on management-side labor and employment issues.
Experience with state or federal agencies responsible for enforcement of labor and employment law.
Experience with labor relations strategy and implementation.
Experience working independently and cross-functionally.
Experience taking on complex projects.
Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder expectations.
Advanced knowledge of federal, state and local employment law, and HR regulations.
Exceptional analytical and investigative skills, with strong attention to detail
Strong presentation and negotiation skills
Experience interfacing with executive management, and high level of client service skills
Proficient in utilizing Google Suite.
Fluent written and spoken English.
Written, presentation and oral communication, interpersonal and consultative skills, as well as effective result-oriented problem solving skills.
Preferred:
Experience with a legislative body, committee or sub-committee responsible for the development of labor and employment-related laws.
Experience working with industrial and manufacturing organizations.
Experience working as part of a geographically dispersed team.
Fluent in French, German or Spanish preferred.
Ability to work in the US without current, or future, need for visa sponsorship/work authorization is required for this opportunity.
