Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the global leader in providing payments solutions for small, medium, and large businesses. The Control Management (CM) team strives to ensure that GCS has a robust first line of defense, playing an active role in supporting the growth of business, meet its objectives and demonstrating an effective control framework.  

The objective of the first line of defense (1LOD) GCS Control Management Risk ID, Assessment, Testing and Reporting team is to identify, assess, mitigate, and report on Operational Risk within BU processes for GCS to ensure adherence to regulatory standards, Amex policy and enhance the BUs resilience through managing a clear methodology of inherent and residual risk 

GCS is looking for a first line of defense (1LOD) Manager/Senior Manager, Exceptions Governance and Pricing, within Risk ID, Assessment, Testing & Reporting. The Manager/Senior Manager will lead the Exceptions and Pricing Governance Programs for GCS by facilitating risk assessment of business-driven initiatives for our Large and Global customer segment and across all GCS products. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple stakeholders across risk disciplines, lines of defense,, business functional areas, and geographies 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Developing and managing the global Exceptions Governance Program for GCS
  • Developing and managing the Pricing Governance Program for GCS
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Controllership, General Counsel, Operations, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and Credit Fraud Risk to assess, manage, and monitor risk across all risk stripes/pillars
  • Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and controls relate to ensure proper risk mitigation strategies are in place
  • Proven ability to transform and improve processes 
  • Review and compile risk dashboards and reporting
  • Support sharing insights, better practices, themes, etc. across the enterprise 

Required Skills/Qualifications: 

  • 3+ Years experience in operational risk management- (e.g., within first or second line of defense (1LOD/SLOD) Risk and/or Internal Audit function). Demonstrated understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards 
  • Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
  • Experience engaging with senior leadership and risk committees
  • Demonstrated ability working across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Strong communication skills to engage and clearly report risks to senior management 

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous
  • Experience in at least one of the following: 
    • Providing identification of operational risks throughout business processes and systems
    • Facilitating risk assessment performance in addition to further assessments and testing programs to ensure regulatory and internal standards are met
    • Enhancing risk assessments and associated methodologies
    • Reviewing independent control monitoring, including identification of control improvements
    • Identifying areas of risk for intervention, including conducting independent quality assurance and process testing
    • Reviewing thematic risk reporting to provide actionable insights on risk levels, emerging trends and root causes  
  • Experience in financial services industry 

    Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
