Your team

The ETF Markets US iShares Capital Markets team is responsible for growing and protecting the trading of the US iShares product suite. We are passionate about leading all aspects of primary and secondary market ETF trading! We seek to identify and mitigate trading frictions that could impact the market quality of our products. In addition, we work alongside ETF market participants, such as liquidity providers, exchanges, and regulators to strengthen and advance the ETF trading ecosystem.

Your role and impact

In this role you will be responsible for protecting and growing the secondary trading of iShares ETFs and manage daily order taking and risk management of the ETF Primary Market. Our goal is to improve ETF market quality while ensuring investor protections are in place for the benefit of our clients.

You will collaborate with partner teams across BlackRock during stressed market events, when performing due diligence on the trading efficiency of our current ETF offering, as well as ensuring a smooth transition to trading when launching new ETFs. This person will also be accountable for analyzing and understanding the technical nuances of ETF trading, spanning all asset classes. Protecting the ETF’s primary and secondary markets through risk management is a core function of the role; this person will be required to lead the team in responding to a broad range of market events and disruptions, requiring the ability to operate and show sound judgement whilst under pressure and a strong understanding of risks across the business to effectively drive solutions. The individual in this position will also work closely with internal partner teams and externally with ETF liquidity providers to progress critical initiatives, understand trading frictions as well as chances to create changes that increase participation or strengthen the ETF ecosystem.

Your responsibilities

  • Be an ETF trading subject matter authority and demonstrate in-depth product knowledge to promote efficient ETF trading and differentiate BlackRock ETFs from competitor funds and other investment vehicles.
  • Oversee and monitor BlackRock ETF trading daily, identify and raise client and business risks and coordinate with the business, external market makers and equity exchanges on resolution.
  • Lead the identification and analysis of trading frictions and inefficiencies impacting ETF market quality.
  • Foster strong relationships and collaborate with external market makers and ETF listing exchanges to collectively drive strategies which can improve ETF trading efficiency.
  • Partner with internal teams including product and portfolio managers to implement product design and trading process improvements.
  • Monitor articles, white papers, and blogs that highlight potential issues with ETFs and help to coordinate a thoughtful response, ensuring consistency with our global message

You have…

  • BA / BS in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or similar field; CFA a plus
  • 7+ years industry experience with an understanding of ETFs, markets, secondary trading, and US equity market structure.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, excel, statistical analysis and experience working closely with internal and external partners
  • Risk management mentality, able to identify and action client and business risk in a timely manner
  • Confirmed relationship-building abilities, particularly influencing internal and external partners
  • Have a high level of motivation, comfort with ambiguity and the ability to function well under time pressure
  • High degree of professional discretion, accountability, and judgment. Critical that person is adaptable, flexible and thrives in a team environment!
  • Prior ETF industry or trading experience is desirable
  • Series 7 and 63 (may be obtained post-hire)


 

For San Francisco, CA Only the salary range for this position is USD$155,000.00 - USD$210,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
