Job Details

Under general direction of the VP, Emerging Therapies, the Director - Cell & Gene Therapy is responsible for channel strategy and product access of Brand and Specialty products for Cencoras distribution companies. This role leads new product access plan development and execution, facilitating cross-functional engagements with all Cencora Business Units and associated functional groups to drive development of new business opportunities and successful partnerships with Brand and Specialty Manufacturers. Coordinates global product access opportunities and executive engagements.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements new business development and product access plans for cell & gene therapies while coordinating with key stakeholders.

  • Develops channel and distribution strategies for new and existing Brand & Specialty manufacturers in partnership with other Cencora Business Units.

  • Proactively engages with cell & gene therapy developers to influence their channel and distribution strategies and to promote the best interests of Cencora and its customers. 

  • Lead Senior level exchanges with cell and gene therapy developer’s C-Suite and other Executives to influence commercialization decisions and educate on Cencoras capabilities.  

  • Represents Cencora Corporation during Strategic Global Sourcing Brand & Specialty RFPs and RFIs; leads development of responses and associated presentations.  

  • Proactively manages the enterprise pipeline, prioritizing opportunities to ensure company engagement on all potential upcoming cell and gene therapy product launches.  

  • Pursues a consultative approach in order to support communication across Cencora to ensure broader enterprise cell & gene strategies and product access principles are understood.

  • Works with the VP, Emerging Therapies to develop and execute on defined strategies, new initiatives and operational activities with new and existing advanced therapy developers.

  • Works closely and collaboratively with Strategic Account Managers, Contract Managers and other Cencora leads to drive specific dollar amounts within targeted manufacturers.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of and foster relationships across the Cencora enterprise.

  • Participate in Industry organizations and conferences (Meeting on the Mesa, Asembia, etc...)

  • Provide regular updates to the VP, Emerging Therapies on pending business development engagements, contract negotiations, key projects, and relevant manufacturer updates.

  • Leads complex negotiations with manufacturers; consulting with internal teams and reinforcing key messages with manufacturers.

  • Complies with departmental policies and procedures.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time. 

Education and experience requirements:

  • Requires significant experience in the pharmaceutical supply chain and distribution areas  with ten (10) or more years in a leadership role.

  • Four (4) year degree in fields such as business administration, accountancy, finance, or similar vocations is required.  Advanced degree in health science discipline (e.g. Pharm.D., MPH, MS) or business administration (MBA) preferred.

  • Understanding of supply channel, trends and methodologies

  • Proven track record for collaboration, building cohesive and effective relationships; strong interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of product and supplier base, product relationships and pharmaceutical / life sciences industry trends

  • Strong facilitation

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Strong negotiating skills

  • Strong group presentation skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong computer skills in order to operate effectively with company systems and programs; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook

Salary Range*

$152,500 - 235,180

*This Salary Range reflects a National Average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado/California/Washington/New York/Hawaii/Vermont/Minnesota/Massachusetts/Illinois State-specific locations may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range, and 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
