Job Summary

The VIPER (Video IP Engineering & Research) team is an organization within Comcast’s grander Technology Product and Experience (TPX) organization which supports the Product Management, Research & Development, Engineering and Operations for Comcast’s World Class Video Experiences in use by Comcast and Syndicated Partners. We build and support platforms and services for both legacy QAM Video Delivery and the Next Generation IP Video Platform infrastructure from Content Acquisition to the Player. These platforms deliver video for live linear, video on-demand and cloud DVR services consumed by more than 20 million customers both in-home and out of home on set top boxes, connected tv, mobile and desktop products.

Job Description

We are seeking an Executive Director of Software Development and Engineering to lead our Linear Video Engineering team. This strategic leadership role will drive innovation and excellence in our end-to-end linear video workflow, from content acquisition and compression to packaging, conditioning, alternate content, and distribution systems.  This role will lead a team with end-to-end responsibility for linear video at Comcast.  This includes managing vendor relationships where necessary, leading software development teams when solutions are built in-house, and having the knowledge to guide a proper build vs. buy decision.  The linear team handles content acquisition, compression, packaging, alternate content switching, stream conditioning, and orchestration.  It is a highly performant team that moves at high velocity to keep pace with the evolving video landscape.

As linear video continues to evolve, we’re looking for a change agent who can help lead the team through the evolution from QAM to IP while simultaneously scaling and expanding our next-gen IP video delivery platform.  This role will help lead the teams responsible for scaling our video solution across North America and Europe.  We’re looking for someone with experience with IP video and OTT systems as well as experience leading large engineering organizations.

Essential Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in video technology, including 8+ years in senior leadership roles managing large-scale video delivery systems and engineering teams

  • Proven track record of leading complex, enterprise-level video technology initiatives, with deep expertise in broadcast technologies, IP video delivery, and cloud-based video workflows

  • Demonstrated experience in modern software development practices, cloud architecture, and operational excellence, with a strong understanding of video compression, packaging, and delivery protocols

  • Executive-level communication skills with experience presenting to C-suite stakeholders, developing strategic roadmaps, and managing relationships with key technology partners and vendors

  • Strong track record of building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams, with experience in organizational development and talent management in technology organizations

  • Experience managing large stakeholders both internal and external, including vendor partners and large customers

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and technical vision for the Linear Video Engineering team, driving innovation in video delivery infrastructure while ensuring operational excellence and system reliability

  • Lead the development and execution of the technical roadmap for next-generation linear video solutions, including cloud migration strategies, automation initiatives, and integration of emerging technologies

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across the organization, working closely with Product, Operations, and Business teams to align technical capabilities with business objectives and market opportunities

  • Oversee the architecture, development, and operation of critical video delivery systems, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance while optimizing costs and efficiency

  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, technical capabilities, and team development, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence

Compensation

This job can be performed in Denver Campus with a Pay Range of $213,748.29 - $320,622.44

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.
