The Chief Product and Technology Officer is looking to appoint a seasoned Director Business Management, who would serve as his right hand, and facilitate the smooth functioning of his office. In this pivotal role, you will drive strategic initiatives, optimize functional performance, and align the team’s work with the organization’s objectives. This role requires a high level of autonomy, strategic thinking, the ability to manage complex issues that impact cross-functional teams, and staying two steps ahead to achieve transformational results.

The ideal candidate is experienced in Product and Technology operations in a cloud software business working with board-level executives. The candidate should possess exceptional problem-solving skills, project and time management, prioritization abilities, complex cross-functional collaboration, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

The candidate needs to be able to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment, handle escalations, remain highly responsive across multiple global time zones, with a can-do attitude. You will need to stand on the CPTO’s behalf on occasion, travel when needed, and earn credibility with the senior leadership team, guiding relationships and proactively identifying opportunities rather than waiting for direction.

What Youll Do:

  • Executive Support and Briefing: Understand the CPTO’s duties, functions and interactions. Intercept incoming requests, manage the CPTOs schedule and prioritize meetings (working with the EA), ensuring all is aligned with product and engineering-focused objectives and strategic priorities. Prepare detailed briefings, reports, and presentations that provide comprehensive insights and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making at the executive level.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Collaborate with the CPTO and SLT to develop, communicate, and execute the department’s strategic roadmap. Support the prioritization of key initiatives across product development and technology innovation and ensure alignment with business goals. Implement scalable processes to monitor and report on progress against designed outcomes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely and openly with cross-functional teams to align product and engineering growth objectives with overarching company strategies, drive execution and performance.
  • Meetings: Create, Inspect, and manage agendas related to all meetings (Internal and External), ensure relevant content is prepared for the highest impact and actions are taken and followed up on. Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and reports for executive meetings, board updates, and other key stakeholder interactions.
  • Problem Resolution and Proactive Escalation: Analyze complex product or development-related challenges and anticipate potential escalations, collect feedback from the leadership team, develop comprehensive and proactive action plans, and oversee accountability for implementation and effective resolution. This requires a data-driven approach. Act as the point of contact for critical issues, providing timely and effective solutions while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing product and technology activities.
  • Project Management: Lead and oversee key product and engineering-focused projects or initiatives, from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered within timelines and budgetary constraints. Coordinate with cross-functional teams for decisions, allocation of resources, progress, and reporting back to the CPTO. Develop tools and frameworks to support project management and communication across teams.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide feedback to the CPTO team, fostering a culture of trust, engagement, accountability, and collaboration, aligned to Coupa’s values and culture. Building a high-performance team that consistently delivers exceptional results. Support with onboarding, training, and development programs for new hires focusing on building strong foundations within Product and Technology.
  • Confidentiality: Maintaining confidentiality is critical to this role.

What You Will Bring To Coupa:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, business administration, finance, or a technology-related field; MBA preferred.
  • Proven track record in a Business Management or equivalent position or 10+ years in senior leadership or project management role, preferably within a software technology environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex escalations and drive effective solutions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and communication skills, with a demonstrated capacity to collaborate across all functions and levels.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies, with a strong emphasis on prioritization and delivering results under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Customer and partner facing experience and executive presence.
  • In-depth understanding of product and technology operations, product development lifecycle, technology trends, and agile methodologies.
The estimated pay range for this role is as follows:

•Based in Bay Area, California: $165,325 - $194,500
•Based in Colorado: $148,750 - $175,000

•Based in New York: $156,825 - $184,500
•Based in Washington: $157,250 - $185,000
