The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is at the forefront of creating a safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplace! Primary responsibilities and essential functions
Drives the operational implementation of standardized EHS programs through partnership to build a proactive culture of safety, compliance, and performance.
Drives leading indicator safety programs.
Partners with management to ensure safety measurements impact and reflect the safety culture.
Audits EHS activities including inspections, investigations, and observations.
Leads activities around investigations of employee injuries, automobile losses as well as general liability claims from outside sources. Manages claim process and works to strategically reduce future claim exposure through proactive measures.
Inspects work locations with insurance carriers to ensure compliance with fire detection/suppression systems.
Participates as an engaged partner in all business continuity preparation and recovery activities
Responsible for region’s DOT compliance; Ensure compliance with DOT and Non-DOT screen programs.
Ensure regulatory compliance including but not limited to DOT, FMCSA, EPA, and OSHA. This includes accurate records for driver qualifications, controlled substance testing, DQ files, and other corporate responsibilities.
Communicates and reviews all regulatory requirements involving safety for all business units; ensures that all facilities follow all applicable state and local safety regulations.
Provides consulting and recommendations for injury & overall risk avoidance for all facilities across the Region.
Responsible for all OSHA related activities including reviewing yearly OSHA Log reports, responding to regulatory inspections, and mitigating violations as needed.
Analyzes occupational injury, illness, and accident reports to assess safety program effectiveness.
Analyzes auto loss data to identify opportunities for improved fleet driver performance.
Assesses work environment & conditions (e.g. field observations) & develop recommendations for improvements to work processes and safety programs; implements such improvements.
Monitors the training needs of the workforce as it relates to safety. May provide input into the design Safety Training Programs that fill the voids in our program(s).
Recommends and monitors implementation of solutions to safety concerns, conducts proactive assessments for all functions.
Responsible for monitoring Region-wide safety-related trends (both internal & external)
Involved in safety-related depositions to include preparation to defend our position, partner with internal/external investigators, law enforcement and attorneys.
Cultivates external relationships, influences OSHA policy (multiple states)
Plays an active role in providing safety-related expertise for enterprise-wide projects.
Leads Regional EHS team conducts reviews to ensure performance objectives and expectations are met, takes immediate action to improve performance level; coaches, develops individual contributors to continuously improve individual and team performance and capability.
May support Cox Enterprises & other Cox divisions for safety related matters.
Ensures compliance with evacuation drills and training.
Drives change for continuous improvement of Cox’s overall safety culture.
Proactively builds, nurtures, and maintains business-focused, long-term working relationships with partners inside and outside of the organization drive safety culture growth.
Works across boundaries to achieve safety-related outcomes addressing business, customer and partner goals and expectations.
Manages the safety program for the region.
Collaborates and includes multi-source inputs into solutions to arrive at consensus and mutually beneficial safety solutions.
Drives organizational and cultural change to achieve business objectives and to foster an integrated safety culture.
Manages safety-related goals and metrics that drive incident reductions.
Fluent in conducting root cause analyses
Identifies opportunities and implements tactics to reduce risk of injuries, accidents, damages, and third-party claims.
Addresses and seeks resolution of significant, or business critical Safety issues.
Advises and coaches team members on Safety procedures, priorities, and standards.
Manages a high-performance culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback, and fostering professional growth and development for employees.
Qualifications
Skills and Requirements:
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years’ experience in a related occupational health and safety. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a masters degree and 4 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year experience in a related field; or 10 years’ experience in a related field
Has or is actively working toward ASP, CSP, CIH, SMS, or other related certifications
Experience with Electrical Safety
Extensive knowledge of health and safety protocols
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety policies
Expertise identifying trends and strategically developing and implementing resolutions regionally with the potential to be enterprise wide
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, presentation, and collaborative skills to effectively partner and consult with teams and leaders throughout the organization
Requires strong working knowledge of desktop tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Must be flexible for emergency response activities as needed
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history
Flexibility to travel locally, regionally, and occasionally to other states ~30%
Preferred
MS degree in related discipline
OSHA 10/30 hour trainer General Industry
License/certificate from an accredited safety organization to include Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist,
