The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is the research division of the company. ATG’s mission is to look ahead, deliver insights, and innovate technological solutions that will fuel Dolby’s continued growth. Our researchers have a broad range of expertise related to computer science and electrical engineering, such as AI/ML, algorithms, digital signal processing, audio engineering, image processing, computer vision, data science & analytics, distributed systems, cloud, edge & mobile computing, computer networking, and IoT.
What You’ll Do
Sight and sound are central to everyday life, and data holds the key to making those experiences more personalized, immersive, and resilient. By harnessing data, we can create extraordinary, previously unimaginable experiences.
We’re seeking innovative researchers in database systems and big data management to help advance technologies that benefit both Dolby and society. As part of our team, you’ll:
- Develop cutting-edge data platforms, services, and analytics tools for large-scale cloud and edge computing environments.
- Advance methods for extracting insights from diverse data sources in innovative, impactful ways.
Our research spans a variety of topics, including:
- Big data management, scalable data cleaning, and transformation tools.
- Data quality, search, and discovery for structured data.
- Information extraction, time-series data analysis, metadata management, and analytics of heterogeneous data.
- Applied AI, machine learning, and data visualization techniques.
- Natural language processing (NLP).
- Big data system innovations, including resource management, storage, caching, query optimization, security, and privacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Advance Heterogeneous Data Management
- Research polystore systems and apply AI/ML techniques to tackle foundational challenges like data quality, profiling, integration, and schema matching.
- Develop Scalable Tools
- Build frameworks for creating machine learning models and data science algorithms across multiple domains, including tabular data, time-series, text, audio, and video.
- Innovate Distributed Architectures
- Design distributed systems leveraging edge computing to enable use cases such as predictive routing, adaptive environments, and data-driven experiences.
- Collaborate Across Domains
- Work with Dolby’s Advanced Technology Group (ATG) researchers to address data-centric challenges in AI/ML for audio and video applications.
What You Need to Succeed
Core Competencies
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of software architecture for real-time, distributed processing of audio/video algorithms across cloud and edge devices.
- Basic familiarity with audio/video streaming formats.
- Curiosity & Innovation:
- Eagerness to explore emerging technologies and create new solutions.
- Inventiveness:
- Ability to develop groundbreaking algorithms, tools, and technologies that position Dolby as a leader in enhancing digital sight and sound experiences.

Desired Background
- PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
- Expertise in relational databases, big data systems, and data analytics.
- Deep knowledge of data management, distributed systems, query optimization, and applied data science.
- Proficiency in statistics, machine learning, and foundational data structures/algorithms.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
- Relevant publications in top-tier conferences (e.g., SIGMOD, VLDB, KDD).
Bonus Skills
- Experience with tools like Databricks, Spark, or cloud-based data services.
- Familiarity with AI model development and deployment in cloud environments.
The Atlanta Area base salary range for this full-time position is $118,700- $163,000, which can vary if outside this location, plus bonus, benefits, and some roles may also include equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, competencies, experience, market demands, internal parity, and relevant education or training.
