Eaton’s Protection Control and Solutions Group is currently seeking a Lead Embedded Hardware Engineer.  This position is located at our Moon Township, PA (Pittsburgh) location. Relocation assistance will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $97499.97 - $142999.96 a year.

What you’ll do:


We are seeking an innovative problem-solver to design embedded electronics used in low voltage and medium voltage circuit breakers for Eatons Protection, Control and Solutions business.  You will be part of a newly formed Advanced Technology team and have the opportunity to develop, design and improve trip units and their capabilities for future circuit protection products. You will work with a team of dedicated engineers and experience the excitement of bringing new products to life from design concept through to production launch.

The primary function is to lead the effort in design and development of embedded electronics for power electronics based circuit protection products and Eaton’s family of circuit breakers. This includes creating functionality related to electronics, embedded firmware, protection, metering, communications, and supporting hardware. 

 

  • Perform complex electronics and embedded design and testing tasks relating to both FW and HW.
  • Plans work in detail at individual level, creating a robust and trackable plan, coordinated with the larger development team, including requirement definition and issue tracking.
  • Review own work as well as others work in formal design and quality reviews.
  • Tests own work or work of others, meeting quality and reliability goals.
  • Develops a high level of technical expertise in embedded electronics design and over time becomes a SME for breaker functionality.
  • Provides domain expertise to product support personnel to solve field issues.
  • Performs and contributes to technical research and investigations.
  • Collaborates with teams from Corporate Research & Technology, Electrical Sector Center of Excellence, and external technology resources (National Labs and Universities) for technology and product innovation.
  • Generates value added intellectual property.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing embedded electronics
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution 
  • Experience with supporting the transition of designs into a production environment
  • Experience with C and C++
  • Experience in electronics control development for solid state and hybrid circuit breaker
  • Experience with wireless communications systems, such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and Zigbee/Matter
  • Experience with embedded firmware in 8 bit through 32 bit microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex, PIC)
  • Experience with Real-time Operating systems
  • Experience in developing device drivers and hardware bringup
  • Experienced with design sharing tools and multi-person development 

Skills:

  • Proficient with circuit design and schematic capture tools, specifically Altium
  • Knowledge of and experience with project tracking tools such as Jira and JAMA
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
