Eaton’s Industrial Controls Division is currently seeking a Lead Firmware Engineer. This is a hybrid (3 days in office, 2 remote) position based at our Menomonee Falls, WI location.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $91500.03 - $134200.04 a year.

What you’ll do:
This position will reside in the divisional headquarters building, which houses engineering for multiple product lines as well as marketing, sales, finance, and research. The facility was built in 2012 and features an open office layout as well as 50,000+ square feet of state-of-the-art laboratory space, a company vegetable garden, ping-pong, employee lounge, fitness center and grill/patio. The qualified candidate will lead technical requirement management and firmware development for ICD’s next generation of industry leading products like the recently launch PowerXL DX1 drive. Other products you may work with are related to advanced motor protection, communications, reduced voltage starting and variable frequency drives for industrial applications. The candidate will work within a firmware center of excellence and together with other team members to drive new product and process development while leveraging modern tools and techniques such as model based design with autocode generation, hardware in the loop, and agile methodologies.
The candidate must possess a mind-set focused on quality, efficiency and innovation combined with application knowledge, firmware experience and leadership capabilities in alignment with Eaton values and competencies.
Primary responsibility include:
- Establish and document new product requirements by collaborating with marketing, engineering, operations and customers.
- Develop embedded C/C++ firmware for products leveraging micro-controllers or digital signal processors with Real Time Operating Systems.
- Support integration of firmware and software and ensure system test coverage in collaboration with global teams for both firmware and test.
- Support the development of embedded firmware architectures and designs to ensure quality and reliability, optimize performance, minimize cost, enable scalability and re-use.
- Lead cybersecurity analysis and implementation within product line.
- Drive test automation, continuous integration, code analysis, code reviews to ensure quality and functionality delivery during development.
- Lead global firmware teams to drive functional excellence, accelerate the development cycle while reducing the cost to develop and maintain products.
- Contribute to technical roadmaps and commercial roadmaps, disclosures and other innovation.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in firmware engineering
- Minimum of 3 years experience working with C/C++ and/or Model Based Design
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing product features and technical requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in all software development lifecycle phases
- Experience and knowledge of embedded real time multi-tasking operating systems
- Experience interfacing with PLCs and other smart industrial devices
- Experience with industrial communication protocols including ProfNet, Ether Cat, Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP
- Green Belt certification
Skills:
- Knowledge and experience related to industrial applications such as motor protection, motor control, industrial communications protocols, and power systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of advanced engineering practices, processes and related tools. This includes anomaly tracking, version control, test driven development, simulation, DevOps, automated testing and continuous integration.
- Knowledge in firmware cybersecurity testing methodologies
- Working knowledge of IEC, UL, and CSA standards for industrial devices
- Experience with Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Tools (preferably Atlassian Tool Set)
- Knowledge of Software Quality Assurance methodologies
- Working knowledge of unit test tools and equipment such as HILs to streamline and ensure test coverage and traceability
