Whats the Role?
Etsy is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our APX engineering team. This role will be focused on improving the agent tooling and infrastructure that enable Etsys Support Agents to deliver efficient, high-quality, and scalable support. Our mission is to increase agent efficiency while improving decision making to deliver positive and consistent outcomes for our customers and the greater Etsy community.

The technology we build spans the full stack end to end; from user experience, to API design, backend service development, vendor integrations, and database design. Depending on the needs of the business our team may need to move up and down the stack, and in many cases collaborate with other teams to get to what needs to be done.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Customer Support and Services. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub will be the first to be considered. Whats the day-to-day?

Contribute at all levels; from front-end (HTML, CSS, JS, and relevant frameworks), to API design and back-end (PHP, MySQL, BigQuery).
Document technical design decisions.
Participate in code and design reviews and maintain high standards of code quality.
Work with supporting functions, such as analytics, product management, and design, to make sure we are building the right product for the right set of customers.

Qualities that will help me thrive in this role are:

You have 2+ years of software engineering experience
Have experience operating in a full-stack environment and owning the development of features end-to-end
You take pride in how well you document technical design, and lead others around you to bring them along.
You demonstrate empathy for the needs and pain points of our buyers and sellers, translating them into innovative and user-friendly support solutions.
You have a knack for organization and breaking down large problems into smaller ones.
You have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are willing to work with and improve on code you did not originally write.
You write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability and scalability.
You are a mindful, transparent, and communicative member of your team.
