Etsy has invested in foundational infrastructure and has built its own service platform supporting a wide range of teams and use cases. Etsy is seeking a senior engineering individual contributor who can bring industry-grounded experience to lead technical designs and planning, contribute to and support, and guide decision-making around our service platform ecosystem.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Providing daily support for peers across Etsy (ex. writing documentation, reviewing pull requests, answering Slack questions, auditing new features, hosting office hours and classes)

  • Driving our day-to-day technical project management in JIRA and helping lead our team ceremonies (standups, sprints, story breakdowns, etc)

  • Contributing and leading at all levels of design and development of the service platform

  • Engaging with peers and customers to align our roadmaps and OKRs to their plans and needs, to deliver the most impactful features in a timely manner

  • Mentoring more junior members of the team both in their day to day work, and their technical and career development

  • Provide detailed and constructive design and code reviews.

  • Engaging with Staff Engineering peers to further Etsy Engineering whether in the platform domain, or in other areas of expertise

  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsys discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

  • You have the capacity to operate within large or small codebases and you know how to craft simplicity from complex systems and ideas

  • Flexibility with different programming languages and cloud-native environments, with GCP as a plus.

  • Partnering as a strong collaborator, listener and communicator and making the team around you grow and learn.

  • Taking the lead on technical decision making by both advising and listening to the ideas of others

  • Demonstrate written understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.

  • You enjoy thinking about the implications of your work on end users, and tailor your actions, decisions and communications to give them the best development experience possible

  • Experience leading, mentoring, and coaching other engineers in a compassionate manner

  • Successful track record of planning and leading complex projects to completion.

  • A growth mindset with excitement towards receiving feedback and learning opportunities

  • A strong sense of ownership towards your work

  • A constant desire to understand the “why” behind what we are doing and what and who will be impacted
