About this role:

At Faire, we are building an advertising solution to help brands boost their visibility in the marketplace and acquire new customers. The Ads Engineering team is part of a small and fast-moving 0 - 1 product development team. We partner closely with Data Science to improve ads relevance and delivery efficiency, collaborate with Search Infrastructure to improve the capability and performance of the core retrieval and ranking engine that powers both search and ads, and work with our analytics engineering team to build reliable logging and measurement tools for use across the company.

As a Sr. Staff Backend Engineer on the Ads team, you will be responsible for developing the next iterations of our ads products with improved retrieval speed, relevance, and scale while also helping us expand our product portfolio to new surfaces, and formats, while building a great advertising experience for our brands.

  • You’ll be able to work on cutting-edge search query and understanding problems combining a wide variety of data about our retailers, brands and products
  • You’ll develop an infrastructure that support state-of-the-art search algorithms, while enhancing search performance and relevance.
  • You’ll optimize existing search infrastructure for efficiency, speed, and accuracy.
  • You’ll build strong cross functional partnerships with data science, analysts, product managers, and machine learning engineers to understand, prioritize and deliver on critical business needs
  • You want to leverage machine learning to help local retailers and independent brands succeed
  • You want to be a foundational team member of a fast growing company, and mentor ads engineers to tackle complex projects spanning product infrastructure and Data science systems.
  • You like to solve challenging problems related to a two-sided marketplace

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, with 3+ years as a technical leader leading complex cross-departmental projects that impact critical business metrics
  • 5+ years of industry experience working across components of an ads system which may include Ads Delivery, Ads formats, and Ads Reporting and measurement
  • Preferably, you have helped scale an ads product from 0 to a major portfolio of products within a larger tech organization
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and experience partnering with data scientists and machine learning engineers to deliver impactful ads products
  • The ability to contribute and execute on team strategy through others without supervision
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others in a closely collaborative team environment 

Salary range:

San Francisco: the pay range for this role is $253,000-$347,500 per year.

This role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule - Faire employees will be expected to go into the office 2 days per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, effective the week of January 13, 2025. Additionally, in-office roles will have the flexibility to work remotely up to 4 weeks per year.
