Staff Engineer - Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM)

Join our Customer Identity Access Management (CIAM) team as a Staff Engineer and help shape the future of identity management. Youll play a key role in building secure, scalable solutions that seamlessly empower organizations to manage user identities, access control, and authentication. What Youll Do:

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of APIs and applications within our Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) systems, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance on CIAM processes and solutions, aligning with industry best practices to drive innovation and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, to integrate and optimize authentication and authorization strategies across the organization
  • Establish a strong partnership with Product and Project Management, shaping a clear technical roadmap, prioritizing key initiatives, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration within the team

What Were Looking For: 

  • At least 7 years of related engineering experience, preferably building large distributed systems
  • Strong proficiency in Go (Golang), with a proven ability to design and develop scalable, high-performance, and secure APIs
  • Strong understanding of service-to-service authentication and secure communication protocols
  • Familiarity with modern development practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and microservices architecture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and comprehensive documentation
  • A collaborative mindset with experience working across cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation
  • Proven ability to mentor and support the growth of engineers, both within a specific area of expertise and more broadly

 

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these: 

  • Hands-on experience with authentication standards and technologies, including JWT and OIDC
  • Proficiency in CIAM technologies such as SSO, SAML, OAuth, and SCIM, with a track record of successful implementations
  • Hands-on experience with Keycloak 
  • Hands-on experience using authorization frameworks like OPA
  • Hands-on experience with React 

 

Work Hours:

  • This position will require you to be available during core business hours and occasionally nights and weekends as required for on call support.

This position is open to Hybrid And Remote Work Locations.

The preferred locations for this position are:

  • New York, NY
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Denver, CO

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.  

There is a strong preference for Hybrid candidates near a local office.  However, we may be willing to consider remote candidates within the US.

This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary: 

The estimated salary range for this position is $195,720 - $234,864. 

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
