GRAIL has an exciting opportunity for a Buyer II. This position reports to the Associate Director, Procurement.
You will be a key contributor to the Procurement team, processing purchase requisitions and purchase orders for inventory items and support services, supporting strategic sourcing and supplier management activities, including RFXs and contract negotiations, and driving cost-saving initiatives. Depending on the applicant pool, the scope of this position might be adjusted based on your prior experience and interests.
In this role, you will work closely with internal end-users to ensure purchases comply with Purchasing procedures, build and foster relationships with key suppliers, and lead/support projects including but not limited to cost savings, system optimization, and reporting metrics.
As a growing organization, you may be asked to take on multiple responsibilities and participate in projects outside your core scope of work.
This onsite hybrid role currently requires a minimum of two days per week in the Raleigh/Durham, NC headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- Process purchase requisitions and purchase orders for non-inventory items and services.
- Process purchase orders for inventory items according to the supply plan.
- Work closely with the Supply Chain team to expedite orders, identify alternative sources, and develop sourcing strategies to mitigate supply constraints.
- Support the Procure-to-Pay process, including onboarding new suppliers and helping to resolve invoicing and receiving discrepancies.
- Conduct strategic sourcing and supplier management activities within assigned categories, including leading competitive sourcing events (RFXs) and driving cost-saving initiatives with input from key Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Negotiate with vendors on common item discounts, shipping terms, exclusives, returns, credits, and other cost-saving opportunities.
- Negotiate contracts and execute strategic sourcing activities under the direction of Procurement Management, including new vendor evaluations, product availability and lead times, pricing, quality control, terms and conditions, spend analysis reports, and import compliance when applicable.
- Support Procurement Management in identifying key metrics to provide insights into Supply Management activities, identify potential areas for improvement, and generate reports for internal business areas.
- Offer recommendations to Procurement Management, define department-driven KPIs, provide metrics, and create goals for continuous process improvement.
- Generate reports and analyses on savings, spending trends, year-over-year price changes, and associated data.

Preferred Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in a comparable procurement role.
- Experience purchasing for a fast-growing biotech or scientific lab environment.
- Familiarity with commonly known sources and suppliers of laboratory supplies, consumables, and chemicals is a plus.
- Ability to work cross-functionally across various departments to address needs and requirements.
- Experience with ERP and finance-related systems such as NetSuite, Coupa, and Concur.
- Experience working with Accounts Payable and Finance departments to resolve invoicing and payment discrepancies.
- Demonstrated ability to assess needs and assist in training co-workers on systems and software.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Intermediate computer skills and ability to learn new applications.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative team setting.
Expected full time annual base pay scale for this position is $82K-$96K. Actual base pay will consider skills, experience and location.
Based on the role, colleagues may be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan tied to company and individual performance, or an incentive plan. We also offer a long-term incentive plan to align company and colleague success over time.
