Scale at HighLevel:
We operate at scale, managing over 40 billion API hits and 120 billion events monthly, with more than 500 micro-services in production. Our systems handle 200+ terabytes of application data and 6 petabytes of storage.

About the Role:
We build and scale high-performance automation systems that operate at an incredible scale. The Workflows Platform team provides the core infrastructure that powers over 12 billion action executions per month, supported by 52 workloads and 1000s of pods managing this complex ecosystem. These systems enable seamless automation for millions of users daily.

We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help us build, optimise, and scale this platform. If you’re passionate about databases, cloud technologies, and solving complex challenges, this is your chance to lead and make an impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and scaling of backend systems for the Workflows Platform, ensuring high performance and reliability at massive scale
  • Architect, develop, and optimize core databases, including MongoDB and Firestore
  • Utilize and manage Google Cloud Platform services, including Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, GKE (Kubernetes Engine), and autoscaling
  • Design APIs and cloud functions, managing rate limiting, job scheduling for high-throughput systems
  • Solve scaling challenges, supporting systems with 12 billion monthly action executions
  • Leverage observability tools (Grafana, Kibana) for monitoring, and contribute to on-call processes for system reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and maintainable solutions
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering professional growth and development

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with 1+ years in a lead role or similar position
  • Expertise in Google Cloud Platform services (or equivalent platforms like AWS), including Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, GKE (Kubernetes), and autoscaling
  • Deep knowledge of databases, particularly MongoDB and Firestore, with experience optimizing for performance at scale
  • Proven experience building and scaling platform infrastructure in fast-paced environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in high-pressure situations
  • Solid understanding of system architecture and cloud practices
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a focus on mentoring and team development
