The salary range for this position is $175,954 - $230,369.
We are looking for an expert on quantum compilation to join the System Architecture and Performance team. As a Senior Staff Theorist on the system architecture group you’ll be part of a cross functional group leading IonQ’s journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
You will be developing compilation techniques and working as part of the system architecture group in co-designing our next generation quantum processors. As part of the role you will interface with the rest of the System Architecture and performance team and with the compiler, applications and quantum error correction teams, developing capabilities and setting the compiler roadmap.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of IonQ’s compiler roadmap.
- Help develop architectures for IonQ’s future quantum computers by providing the right compiler abstractions and running trade studies.
- Develop compilation techniques that improve performance of algorithms running on IonQ’s current quantum computers.
- Prototype code and write documentation for new compilation techniques.
- Assist the compiler team with the implementation of compiler techniques in production code.
- Work with error mitigation and error correction experts to co-develop methods that improve performance of current and future devices.
- Work with quantum application and architecture experts to design the end-to-end circuit optimization framework.
You’d be a good fit with:
- A Phd in a field related to quantum computing
- At least 5 years of experience working on aspects of quantum compilation, circuit synthesis, quantum error correction or quantum computing architecture.
- Excellent communication skills.
You’d be a great fit with:
- 10+ years of experience in quantum computation
- 3+ years of experience outside of an academic setting
- A track record of scientific publications and/or patents related to quantum computing
- Experience working on quantum error correction
- Experience working on NISQ applications
- Extensive knowledge of quantum algorithms.
- Great coding skills and experience delivering work to software engineers
Location:
This position is located in our newest facility in Bothell, WA. We will also consider hiring in Toronto, Canada or remote/hybrid for the right candidate.
Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQs HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, a quick 15-minute metro from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
