Resident Engineers are hands-on,’ providing operational support services that empower our customers to get the most from our industry-leading products. You will apply your technical knowledge to optimize customer networks, proactively mitigate risks, test and deploy new software and hardware, and delve into hot issues. The Resident Engineer will engage individually or as part of a more significant customer Network Operations Team.
Working from both home and on-site locations. Providing support on-site with our customers.
Location - Seattle Area preferred, US remote possible
Responsibilities
- Support Juniper Networks products portfolio, including SSR (SD-WAN), MIST APs, EX-Series switches, QFX-Series switches, and SRX-series firewalls.
- Focus on network troubleshooting and operations support along with network and configuration analysis
- Troubleshoot equipment and network problems as well as open and track cases through to problem resolution
- Raise equipment Return Material Authorizations (RMA’s) and track these through to problem resolution
- Provide maintenance window (MW) support, including MOP creation and execution
- Hold design and information gathering workshops with the Customer to understand the Customer’s existing network design and technical requirements of new network designs.
- Understand the customer’s organizational structure and become familiar with the customer’s network implementation and support processes and procedures to help design an available and sustainable network.
- Carry out testing of new designs, features, and functionality as required by the Customer in a laboratory environment and help develop plans to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network
- Test patches and fixes to operating software to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the pre-production test network and then in the live network as implementation plans dictate.
- Produce a written summary report of the status of Design projects, equipment, and network problems regularly to the Customer
- Assist with network inventory asset management and tracking
- Assure the success of customer projects related to migration toward Juniper-implemented solutions through active participation and leadership
- Conduct informal technical and product workshops with customer internal support teams
- Train the Customer’s design, implementation, and support personnel to configure and operate the Juniper Networks products
- Assist the Customer in developing Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures
- Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for Juniper product applications used by Customer
- Peer with other employees performing similar resident engineering roles where lessons learned may help minimize the risk associated with major network upgrades or changes in the network.
- The RE will be expected to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper product portfolio.
Skills and Experience
With a Service Provider or similar industry experience, candidates must have at least 5 years of experience providing implementation and technical support of security and networking products in LAN, WAN, or Internet services environments.
Candidates for this role must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- Detailed technical experience installing and operating Security, switching, and IP-based routers. This includes hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers.
- Hands-on configuration and operational knowledge of Juniper Networks JUNOS, MX/EX/QFX/SRX-Series Products, and the SSR-Series Router / Mist Portal.
- Service Provider NOC/SOC experience (understanding how significant networks function and their associated monitoring and performance tools).
- Experience working in a 24/7 global infrastructure environment. Able to handle critical Priority 1 issues requiring quick turnarounds.
- Detailed understanding and implementation of best practices, including Routing protocols (OSPF/ISIS/BGP), MPLS signaling (LDP/RSVP/SR), MBGP L3VPN, EVPN
- A detailed understanding of the protocols surrounding IP service provider networks. These skills should include TCP/IP fundamentals, IP subnetting super netting and hierarchical routing principles, Routing protocol operation (OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, RSVP, IPv6, and BGP)
- Virtualization technologies, i.e., VMware, OpenStack, and Proxmox
- Delivery of Knowledge Transfer type training sessions. Able to share knowledge in both formal and informal settings.
- The ability to function in a team environment.
- Strong customer interface and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work calmly under pressure
- Network Industry certifications are strong pluses.
- Strong Interpersonal skills.
- Experience with RESTFUL API and structured data
- Need to have 802.11 Wireless Technologies experience (CWNP certification a plus)
Focal Technologies
The ideal candidate for this role will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- JUNOS CLI or other Network OS experience required
- 5-7 years of Networking support for Service Provider or Large Enterprise experience
- WiFi / RF engineering experience
- Unix/Linux skills a plus
- Some scripting skills a plus
- Hardware: SRX, MX, EX, QFX, SSR, MIST APs
- Test equipment such as Spirent, Agilent N2X, and Ixia a plus
- 4+ years of experience managing considerable technical account activity around network products from multiple vendors (Both traditional networking and wifi).
Minimum Salary: $118,976.00
Maximum Salary:$171,028.00
The pay range for this position is expected to be between $118,976.00 and $171,028.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Juniper’s pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
