Job Description:

Principal Designers on the Experience Design team bring a user-centered design sensibility to KeyBank’s client experiences. We are seeking an accomplished, collaborative, and mature design leader with UX design experience who excels at creating intuitive and useful designs, mentoring design talent, and fostering a productive team dynamic.

Over one million customers log in to our apps every day to do their banking. In this role you will have accountability for the UX/UI design of high-visibility user flows and interactions. You will be expected to champion an incomparable user experience and guide product design activities across the Studio. You will mentor a team of designers, enlarging their understanding of UX and enhancing their skills in the craft of design. You will work in an Agile environment and be responsible for furthering design thinking at Key.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic design advocate who can confidently vocalize an informed, relevant design perspective to design colleagues, client partners, and executive leadership. They will be as motivated by optimization and results as they are by design and user experiences. This is a leadership position on our Experience Design team within the Client & Employee Experience group that enables Key to deliver exceptional experiences by aligning data-driven action to the needs of our current and future clients and teammates.

COMPETENCIES/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Product design leadership that elevates the quality and craft of design for both external customers and internal clients
  • No fewer than 7 years in the UX field with an emphasis on interaction design for web & mobile apps
  • Proven UX/UI experience with a standout design portfolio representing your design philosophy, problem-solving process, and design outcomes
  • Ability to lead the execution of all design interactions and user interface stages from concept to final hand-off to engineering
  • Ability to articulate design processes and create design tools that enable others to develop quality  design solutions
  • Ability to develop prototypes, wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, site maps and other design expressions that conceptualize and communicate design ideas, experiences & interactions
  • Ability to facilitate user research, ideation, and design critique sessions
  • Previous UX/UI team management experience, including oversight and mentorship of designers assigned to squad and studio deliverables
  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or other visual design, wire-framing, prototyping and video tools
  • Experience working in an Agile development process
  • Ability to contribute to the evolution, maintenance, and management of the Key Design System
  • Proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Confluence/Jira and other visual design and UX tools
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Ability to present designs and sell solutions to various stakeholders
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
  • Up-to-date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with front-end developers and engineers
  • Team-first approach that prioritizes the success of the design team over one’s own ambitions
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with leadership and client stakeholders
  • BS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or related field

ACTIVITIES:

  • Have primary accountabilities for all UX/UI design work for Consumer Digital
  • Provide consistent product design guidance to the UX/UI resources (full-time and contract) required to successfully execute against the established goals and objectives
  • Guide a team of designers by helping to elevate the quality of their design thinking
  • Actively contribute to the career development of a team of designers through goal-setting and performance review activities
  • Lead the weekly Product Design Guild meeting with designers that focuses on elevating the craft of product design at Key
  • Collaborate with UX Design Leads, Designers, Product Owners and Engineers to lead the definition and implementation of solutions for product direction and experience
  • Facilitate ideation sessions between diverse groups to properly frame complex problems
  • Consistently reinforce a user-centered design perspective to the team to ensure design are relevant to both user needs and business objectives
  • Gather and effectively evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers and then translate into design deliverables
  • Participate in research activities and have the ability to conduct design validation such as usability testing
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of detailed product design documentation
  • Ensure that all UX work is anchored in Key’s Design Thinking framework and curriculum
  • Ensure that designs adhere to established KeyBank Brand Guidelines, Style Guides and the Key Design System
  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders.
  • Anticipate and address UX and interaction design problems
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure that design specifications are properly constructed, tested, and implemented
  • Advocate for Design Thinking and Key Studio principles across the organization

As a result, this role may be mobile or home based, which means you may work either at a home office or in a Key facility to perform your job duties. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $120,000 to $140,000 annually depending on job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
