The Health Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Biostatistician to work remotely in our Atlanta, GA office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) program for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention mission in preventing healthcare associated infections (HAIs). In this mission we are seeking an experienced biostatistician to develop computer programs primarily using SAS/R and to monitor data quality. The role involves communicating with project areas regarding study activities and protocols, analyzing data for reports, presentations, and publications, and assisting in reviewing study data for validation and quality assurance.
Additional duties include supporting NHSN users with advanced queries related to facility setup, data collection, and system report generation; organizing study files including data and correspondence; conducting scientific, medical, and research literature searches in various fields, such as Behavioral and Social Sciences, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Sciences and preparing slides for scientific presentations. The candidate will also provide analytical support to multidisciplinary teams aimed at achieving public health research and program objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Monitors the implementation of the dialysis NHSN analytic program
    • Responsible for ensuring data is accurate and readily available for analysis, which is utilized to inform best prevention practices and guidelines for high quality patient care
  • Verifies all dialysis-related final compliance data files sent from CDC to CMS for healthcare quality improvement programs
  • Provides NHSN data cleaning and data validation projects to improve the quality of NHSN product
  • Maintains and updates technical content of protocols, instructions, and other documents for NHSN dialysis surveillance resulting from technological advancements, HAI/disease trends, and yearly updates of system components (10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems [ICD-10-CM])
  • Design qualitative and quantitative tools and materials in support of a data collection plan
  • Develops, and implements data collection or management methods used to ensure quality
  • Assists with the interpretation and presentation of data for scientific presentations, publications, and/or guidance documents
  • Provides technical analysis assistance to population of healthcare associated infection professionals
  • Explains complex concepts, ideas, and/or policies effectively to individuals and/or groups
  • Engages with the target audience and tailors evidence-based recommendations and/or health policy information to their needs with minimal supervision
  • Establishes program standards, policies, strategies, goals and evaluation plans in conjunction with senior staff
  • Conducts user outreach and education and provides consultation and technical assistance to dialysis provider groups, quality improvement organizations, and health departments in order to support their healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention, surveillance, and response activities, and to meet NHSN data quality needs.
  • Provides input on NHSN dialysis helpdesk inquiries that require complex analysis and/or advanced knowledge of NHSN reporting criteria, enrollment procedures, and surveillance protocols
  • Prepares and presents educational trainings about NHSN to professional organizations and governmental bodies at national, state and local levels.
  • Participates in epidemiological investigation, research and other technical assistance.
  • Participates in special DHQP studies or projects.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, or Math and 4-6 years of experience or MS, MPH, MSPH and 2 years of experience. Must be able to obtain public trust clearance. Must be SAS and R Proficient with 2+ years of experience.
 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Pyspark.  Previous federal work experience related to 1CDP/HHSprotect/DCIPHER.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $67,600.00 - $122,200.00
