The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.


Description

To win in a world of accelerated change, it is critical to create the protected space to incubate new ideas, rapidly test concepts in market, and accelerate the delivery of critical insights and capabilities to the business. Since 2016, Solaria Labs has been testing into new spaces and reinventing Liberty Mutual’s offerings for the future to reduce uncertainty, de-risk future investments, and limit distraction for the core business.

 

The Global Risk Solutions (GRS) Incubation team focuses on incubating opportunities with high potential for disruption in partnership with GRS business teams. This includes opportunities that support enterprise-wide innovation priorities as well as those that support GRS strategy. We are looking for a new member of the team to source, explore, and deliver incubation programs. This person will report to the Head of GRS Incubation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with key stakeholders across Liberty Mutual to identify opportunities that are aligned to enterprise-level and/or GRS strategic priorities and have the potential to disrupt our business in the future
  • Define incubation opportunities, including hypotheses to test and near- and long-term value
  • Design and incubate new products, services, and tools with the goal to generate new learnings and assets to de-risk and accelerate future investments
  • Partner with key stakeholders to transfer these learnings and assets back to the core business

 

Example Project

 

Liberty Mutual partners with clients not only to transfer risk but also to mitigate and control risk.  Solaria’s GRS Incubation team recently partnered with GRS Data Science to test a roof health tool providing aerial imagery and roof condition insights to property clients.  We began by creating mockups for clients to react to, then worked with GRS Data Science to adapt an internal tool for client use.  In this role you will have the opportunity to lead similar types of projects.

 

 

Position is based in Boston. Please note the expectation for remote individuals is they are located in New England and can come into the Boston office once a week.

 

The actual internal level/grade for this role will depend on the candidate’s overall experience and skill level:

  • Assistant Director, Product Research: $104,000 - $194,000. Annual FTO days (Flexible Time Off): 20

  • Director, Product Research: $117,000 - $221,000. Annual FTO days (Flexible Time Off): 20

 

 

 

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant work experience required for Assistant Director level 
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant work experience required for Director I level 
  • Expert skills in Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Must have exceptional planning, analytical, decision-making, communication, and project management skills 
  • Understanding of commercial insurance concepts, underwriting process, and financial metrics strongly preferred 
  • Self-starter who takes the initiative to lead their own projects and can set a vision 
  • Ability to manage high degrees of complexity and ambiguity 
  • Strong collaboration / relationship-building skills 
  • Exposure to Agile
