Maersk Energy Markets (MEM) is looking for a Global Head of Operations to lead our Operations function and manage a global team of operators based across Singapore, Geneva, Copenhagen and New York. MEM is part of the Energy Transition Division of APMM and is responsible for delivering cost-competitive energy to the group, creating value through asset optimization, and ensuring best in class fuel supply in more than 200 ports globally for more than 750 vessels. MEM sources more than 10 million metric tonnes of fuel annually to Ocean from external suppliers and via our own supply chain by sourcing raw materials, blending them into finished fuel grades and delivering them using our asset infrastructure and fleet of barges. Through our commitment to become net-zero by 2040, our fuel mix is turning green, and this position will be key to ensuring that we can manage the complexity of our increasingly fragmented fuel portfolio.
Responsibilities
Responsible for handling all physical fuel delivery, the Global Head of Operations, Energy Markets will be responsible for the Maersk global fuel portfolio covering the following:
- Conventional Fuel Oil [VLSFO, HSFO, MGO, ULSFO]
- Bio Diesel
- Methanol
- LNG
- Bio-LNG
This portfolio value stands at several billion USD per annum and requires the successful candidate to ensure the safe, reliable and timely delivery of fuels at all times, 24/7, of the right quality. As a critical part of our business, the Global Head of Operations, Energy Markets, will work in close alignment with the Trading function and provide commercial leadership for the Operations team.
Similarly, they will work in close engagement with internal Ocean division stakeholders to ensure integral fuel delivery for our port activities.
Managing global mass-balance activity, the successful candidate will ensure and protect end-to-end green value and ISCC certification of green fuel OPEX investment. They will also ensure we can meet customer demand as well as our own decarbonization targets.
Managing a team of 25-30 employees, the Global Head of Operations, Energy Markets will lead the team responsible for expansion of our fuel optimization model to cater for increased complexity in our fuel portfolio. The team accommodates portfolio optimization for lowest cost fuel mix, including lowest compliance cost (EU ETS, Fuels EU Maritime, IMO regs). Further to leading the team and taking ownership, the successful candidate will also be responsible for developing and growing the team.
What You Bring
- Senior leader with excellent leadership skills and proven track record of managing global team.
- Deep subject matter expertise and commercial knowledge of liquid fuel markets, specifically fuel oil.
- Solid experience working in an operational, physical trading business.
- Strong commercial acumen, authority to credibly engage with Head of Trading.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable with 20% international travel per annum.
