GenAI Engineer
Role Description: As a GenAI engineer at MagicSchool.ai, you will optimize AI models that power tools designed to ease the workload of educators, helping them automate tasks like lesson planning and content generation. Your expertise in deploying LLMs and building custom agents will drive the creation of AI systems that support teachers, making the platform even more efficient and adaptable to classroom needs.
This role is not just ML/data science, and you will not be building your own LLMs, but you should have understanding of the math and science behind AI and will be working with our tech stack.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Evaluate AI Models: Build automated frameworks to assess our tools for accuracy, efficiency, and bias, ensuring that AI outputs remain equitable and reliable. Focus on refining model evaluations to support a diverse range of educational needs.
Customizable AI Solutions: Create scalable and flexible AI solutions that allow teachers and districts to customize tools for their specific classroom contexts, increasing the adoption rate of MagicSchools platform across districts by 15%.
Innovative AI Deployments: Continuously evaluate emerging GenAI tools, deploying relevant new features to improve our product. Prototype and test applications that enhance educators productivity and align with our mission.
Qualifications/Competencies/Skills:
To be successful in this role, you bring:
Proficiency in GenAI Technologies: Deep hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs), including understanding how to fine-tune and deploy them. Familiarity with advanced AI tools like retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), function calling, embeddings, and agents to choose and implement the right technologies for specific educational use cases.
API and Model Integration: Expertise in integrating pre-built AI models and APIs into existing platforms, optimizing their functionality for tools used by educators, such as lesson planners and assessment generators.
Problem-Solving and Innovation: Strong ability to develop creative AI-driven solutions to streamline teacher workflows, from automating lesson creation to grading, focusing on delivering practical outcomes that enhance productivity and ease of use for educators.
Data Engineering and Analytics: Proficiency in handling and processing data to train and evaluate AI models, ensuring continuous improvement of the tools through data-driven insights and optimization.
Collaboration and Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with product teams, educators, and other engineers to align AI developments with real-world classroom needs. Strong communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience:
7+ years of experience as an engineer
Hands-on Experience with AI/ML Models: At least 2 years of working with large language models (LLMs) and generative AI technologies, including fine-tuning and deploying these models for specific use cases. Experience working with tools like OpenAI’s GPT, Claude, Hugging Face, or other similar platforms for integrating and customizing AI models would be essential.
API Integration and Deployment: Experience integrating AI/ML models into existing software platforms using APIs. Familiarity with platforms like Google Cloud AI, AWS AI services, or similar tools is critical, as the role requires seamless integration of pre-built models.
Project-Based Work: Proven track record of delivering AI-powered projects or tools from conception to deployment, with measurable impact. Experience with side projects involving AI agents, chatbots, or data-driven applications showcasing initiative and creativity.
Tech Stack: Typescript & Python
