A Day in the Life
Therapy Director for the Spinal Cord Stimulation and Targeted Therapy Delivery Business
This individual will be part of the Neuromodulation Research and Development Leadership team, reporting to the VP R&D. They have (or can quickly develop) in-depth domain-specific technical and therapy knowledge.
Approximately 50% of their time will be dedicated to ensuring the flawless execution of the New Product Innovation (NPI) roadmap, including:
- Manage and support Core Team Leaders (CTL), both short-term and in their long-term professional growth
- Support CTLs and Core Teams through project execution challenges
- Support CTLs and Core Teams at the Product Review Committee (PRC) and through all phases of the Ideation to Market Release process
- Manage with other Therapy Directors the Core Team Leader Forum, the CTL pipeline, and CTL professional growth
- Collaborate with other Therapy Directors to define common best practices
- Work with other Therapy Directors to manage scope/cost/schedule challenges across the portfolio and escalate to the business as necessary
- Collaborate with Operations to ensure all OPC projects are evaluated and supported and no continuity risks arise
- Attend the business processes (IBP PMR and GSR) to support lifecycle needs and actions
- Collaborate with Release Product Engineering team to ensure key field issues are appropriately prioritized and understood in the context of the specific therapy needs
- Work with finance on monthly and quarterly management of Capital, Expenses, and Latest Best Estimates.
- Collaborate with strategy, the PMO, and the functions to clarify the priorities as input to the Supply and Demand process
- Key point of contact for the Neuromodulation and Neuroscience Leadership Teams for therapy and technical questions
- In coordination with the field, can present NPI Roadmap to hospitals and customers
Approximately 30% of their time will be dedicated to developing and aligning around the Therapy Strategy. This will include:
- With other Therapy Directors will manage the Idea-Review-Board as a pre-cursor of the Investment Review Board to develop a rich funnel of strong new ideas and investment options.
- Defines the NPI roadmap under the leadership of the strategy team and in collaboration with all key stakeholders and functions
- Involved in critical Business Development assessments and will be the technical representative in due diligence activities
- Partner with upstream marketing, Research and Technology (R&T), and the Digital Director to ensure the therapy-specific needs are reflected in the digital pipeline
- Works in close collaboration with R&T to define key areas of interest and early ideas prioritization in the specific therapy area
- Explores adjacent markets and technologies for consideration
- Partner with legal to create a coherent attack/defense IP strategy
Approximately 20% of their time will be spent fostering collaborations with customers and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). This includes:
- In-depth knowledge of the top 20 global KOLs and other key physicians
- Participation in key advisory boards and scientific congresses.
- Together with upstream marketing R&T organizes dedicated Tech Suites to assess new ideas directly with customers.
- Key point of contact for the Neuromodulation and Neuroscience Leadership Teams for technical questions.
- In coordination with the field, can present Product Roadmap to hospitals and customers
Must-Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical sciences
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or Advanced Degree with a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 7+ years of managerial experience
Nice to Have
- Medical device experience (Class I, II, or III)
- 5+ years of pertinent-level management experience with responsibility for strategic and tactical management of a complex medical device technology and product pipeline
- Demonstrated experience in engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, biomedical, software, UI/UX design, industrial design, and human factors.
- Demonstrated comfort with basic sciences such as biology, physiology, and anatomy, the physical sciences including physics and chemistry
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across the matrix and leading cross-functional program teams
- Demonstrated business acumen, executive presence, and communication skills
- Proven skills in quantitative analysis and data-driven decision-making.
- Experience with highly complex/high-reliability products
