JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Corporate Tax will support the tax team in all areas of income tax operations, including but not limited to tax provision, compliance, audits, and technical research. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in compliance with a large state filing presence along with some experience in provisioning. This role will work with the leadership team to identify and mitigate potential areas of risk, as well as support organizational-wide tax planning and strategies. 

The ideal candidate is a team player who will build business relationships and will elevate the tax team by focusing on quality, accuracy, and efficiency.  The Senior Manager, Corporate Tax will report to the Corporate Tax Director.  Mr. Cooper tax team currently follows the organizations home-centric model, where individual contributor work will be done remotely on a regular basis. Time in-office will be on an as needed basis and will be dedicated to collaborations more suitable for in-person meetings up to four times a year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate will have the background experience (or similar applicable experience) to carry out the following position responsibilities:
 

  • Manage the tax return compliance process to ensure timeliness and accuracy of federal and state income tax returns

  • Oversee the quarterly estimated payment calculations to ensure the appropriate amount of tax is remitted

  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and other required support for tax positions

  • Manage the company’s federal and state tax controversy process, including audit defense and notice response preparation.

  • Develop tax strategies and drive certain tax planning projects, including various federal and state tax credits

  • Manage the quarterly and year-end GAAP financial statement preparation and maintain effective control procedures and documentation

  • Communicate with external service providers to ensure sufficiency of tax information (and support thereof) for tax compliance and provision processes

  • Guide the tax team in its monthly tax forecast calculations and modeling

  • Work closely with other departments within the Company to ensure timely awareness of transactions and events that will affect filing obligations and tax positions

  • Maintain with the Company’s Section 382 analysis and monitoring cumulative ownership shift

  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation to improve process efficiencies by utilizing Alteryx, MS Apps, and other available technology tools

  • Maintain current knowledge of tax policy and legislative changes and assisting with developing the Company’s tax positions in relation to such laws, regulations and pronouncements. 

  • Collaborate with leadership on special projects within all areas of the Company’s corporate tax function, as necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ Years of experience or experience equivalent to a Senior Manager with team leadership

  • 6+ years of extensive experience in compliance.

  • Experience with ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes.

  • Experience with federal and multi-state and local tax accounting for corporations.

  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated project management skills and ability to prioritize projects and tasks

  • Strong team and individual organization as well as time management skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well with other team members and stakeholders

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Strong emotional intelligence, including interpersonal skill, social awareness, team player

  • Excellent research, analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Strong experience and skills with MS Excel, Word, Outlook

  • Masters degree in Accounting or Finance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • CPA Certification

  • Experience with Tax Technology including OneSource Tax Provision, Alteryx, MS Teams Applications

  • Financial services/mortgage banking experience

  • Hands on compliance experience in a big 4 accounting firm, corporate tax department or equivalent.
