POSITION SUMMARY:

Natera is seeking a skilled, self-motivated, and hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead a software development team in the Oncology domain in a fast-growing biotech company. You will lead and grow a team of full-stack and UI engineers building critical web applications and services. You will drive technical excellence, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and design teams to deliver exceptional user experiences. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, youll guide the team in developing scalable solutions while maintaining high standards for quality and compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 6-8 engineers, focusing on career development and technical growth
  • Drive technical roadmap execution and architectural decisions
  • Manage project delivery, resource allocation, and sprint planning
  • Establish and maintain engineering best practices and quality standards
  • Collaborate with product management to define technical requirements and timelines
  • Lead hiring initiatives to build and scale the engineering team
  • Foster a culture of code quality, testing, and documentation
  • Manage team performance, conduct reviews, and provide regular feedback
  • Balance technical debt with new feature development
  • Directly contribute to engineering initiatives. Continue to participate in coding and code reviews.

The following technologies are specifically desirable:

  • Experience with programming in Java framework such as Spring
  • Experience with programming in JavaScript frameworks such as NextJS
  • Experience with cloud providers, AWS is preferred
  • Experience with front-end development in React
  • Experience with databases including SQL and noSQL
  • Experience with Ruby and RoR frameworks is a plus
  • This role works with PHI and requires oversight of systems handling sensitive data
  • Must complete HIPAA/PHI privacy and compliance training within 30 days
  • Must maintain current status on Natera training requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience with leadership experience
  • Strong technical background in:
  • Modern web development (React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, etc)
  • Databases, including SQL and noSQL
  • Backend systems and APIs
  • Cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS)
  • Experience managing teams in regulated environments
  • Track record of successful project delivery and team growth
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies
  • Experience with performance management and career development
  • Healthcare IT experience beneficial

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proven record of managing highly effective engineering teams
  • Willingness and ability to manage global teams across multiple time zones
  • Focus on recruiting strong talent
  • Strong experience in mentoring developers, seeking out opportunities and providing guidance for engineers to grow and excel
  • Excellent project management skills in Agile environments
  • Experience in building enterprise applications using Java, JavaScript or similar languages
  • Expertise in building highly scalable distributed systems
  • Hands-on coding, design, and architecture skills
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate effectively with reports, peers, and stakeholders
  • Demonstrate initiative with proactive approach to addressing issues and finding creative solutions
  • Experience developing software in a regulated environment is a plus
The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
