The Peacock team is looking to add a talented Principal Engineer as part of Global Streaming Technology group.
You will be a key technical leader within the VOD team, responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining media technologies and systems. The role involves designing and overseeing the architecture for media encoding and streaming, mentoring junior engineers and cross-team collaboration. You will ensure the quality of all media processing systems i.e ensuring quality, performance and goals against KPI’s are met. You will become a part of a team that builds and supports applications for all platforms, delivering metadata and video content to millions of users.
The Peacock VOD Engineering team builds services using cutting-edge technology. We are looking for a dynamic team player who is an owner, accountable and passionate about technology. You will be working on high-visibility applications serving millions of users for industry-leading media and entertainment content. You will be working with a team of quality assurance professionals, providing guidance and instruction to ensure the level of quality being delivered adheres to high standards the Peacock team expects. You will be responsible for end-to-end testing of all product deliverables leveraging various methods and workflows that include automation, eyes-on-glass, regression, and the testing of incremental features across platform verticals.
What the Team Does
- The VOD Engineering team builds E2E video on demand solutions
- The VOD team is responsible for the automated media pipeline delivering content to NBCU’s streaming platforms including Peacock.
- Troubleshoots issues arising in the VOD pipeline.
- Configures encoding of video, audio and subtitles for delivery across various platforms/devices.
- Research new technologies in the media space and conduct POCs.
- Collaborates with Operations, player and client teams to drive innovation and improvements in video delivery.
Responsibilities
- Defines the technical roadmap and the technologies used to achieve business goals
- Owns and watches over the design and architecture of video encoding and packaging solutions
- Ensure that the requirements, designs and architecture incorporate resiliency, reliability and observability
- Ability to leverage tools, such as lucid charts and others, to visually capture E2E component infrastructure with rich detail
- Responsible for creating, documenting and updating diagrams
- Review requirements and specifications of new and existing features, translating these into test cases for manual and automated workflows
- Drive innovation by researching and implementing new technologies and methodologies
- Mentor others on proper trouble shooting methods
Qualifications
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
- Min 10 years of experience in media engineering, software architecture and design
- Deep understanding of media workflows, codecs, DRM, encoding, and packaging including CMAF, HEVC, UHD, HDR, ABR, HLS, Dash, SSAI
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages (Python, GO, Java, JavaScript)
- Knowledge of database systems (SQL and noSQL)
- An owner, committed to quality in every task, large or small
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skill
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
