Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company (SpinCo) comprised of most of NBCUniversals cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
Role Purpose:
The Global Process Owner, Record to Report (R2R) sits within the Global Finance Operations (GFO) team within Global Controllership reporting to the SVP, Global Finance Operations, and will be responsible for driving the R2R transformation roadmap and strategy at a very transformational time within NBCU, as we migrate from a SAP ECC platform to S/4 Hana over the coming years. In addition, the R2R GPO will also be responsible for driving the Blackline strategy as we look to further leverage the Blackline capabilities, which will continue be a key boundary system.
Responsibilities:
Transformation
- Support design and implementation of S/4 Hana in areas including Code Block Design, Fixed Asset Accounting, Intercompany, Journal, Reporting etc.
- Ensure optimal use and adoption of enabling technologies including Blackline, owning the Transformation Roadmap in partnership with Finance Stakeholders and IT
Continuous Improvement
- Support identification and prioritization of Continuous Improvements impacting the Global processes within R2R
Control Environment
- Establish and maintain an appropriate accounting control environment within Finance operations for R2R, working closely with the R2R Ops Lead and the Risk and Compliance team
Policies & Procedures
- Ensure development and implementation of operational policies and guidelines that support the business needs in partnership with the R2R operational leads
- Provide input into key accounting policies being developed by the technical accounting team
- In partnership with the R2R operational leads, ensure accurate operational procedures in place
Process
- Design & implement master data governance across end-to-end processes within GFO
- Work with key stakeholders across the process, to ensure the process is “fit for purpose” and drive towards best practice. The GPO should always be looking at latest trends in the market and bringing best practice to NBCU
People
- Lead the GPO team including the extended Accenture BPO team, and work hand in hand with the Accenture GPO lead.
- Partner very closely with the R2R GFO Operations VP to ensure joined up thinking and plans that consider operational impacts
Performance
- In partnership with the R2R Operations VP, align on key metrics that are required to measure the performance across the end-to-end process, and set performance targets and Service Level Agreement thresholds
BPO Management
- Provide support, guidance and expertise where needed to the Operational Leadership (Onshore) in managing the relationship with the BPO Provider (Accenture).
2025 key deliverables and areas of focus:
- Own and drive the 2025 R2R Transformation Roadmap, ensuring close alignment with the R2R Ops VP and other stakeholders
- Support the Global Template design phase of the S/4 Hana program
- Continue to rollout the Blackline Hyper Automation project that is in flight (more information will be provided during the interview phase) and look for other areas where Blackline can be leveraged
- Continue to evolve the Center of Excellence strategy within R2R in partnership with the Operations team
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
- CPA or International equivalent required
- 10+ years’ experience in R2R environment including managerial positions of increasing responsibilities, ideally with experience in a GPO position, but must have strong operational experience from prior roles
- Leadership experience within a shared services R2R function, including working with a BPO partner
- Significant experience of using and implementing technology solutions including SAP S/4 and Blackline within the R2R area is required for this role
- Significant experience of SAP and Blackline required
Desired Characteristics:
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles (USGAAP) and control environment (e.g. SOX) with a strong audit background (internal or external) preferred
- Media and Entertainment industry preferred, but not required
- Proven ability to implement business process changes to improve operating efficiencies
- Executive presence, ability to interact with executives at high levels to resolve issues or effect changes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interface with all levels of management and stakeholders
- Ability to drive change and influence within a matrixed and decentralized operating model
- Ability to lead a remote function or team and work flexible hours to support a Global Team and businesses.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office, in New York, NY, a minimum of three days per week.
