As the lines between games, film, TV, and animation continue to blur, the Transmedia Lab R&D team works within the Netflix Game Studio and across the company to ensure we’re paving a way towards a future where creatives and teams can seamlessly collaborate across those mediums in a way only Netflix can.

As a Senior R&D Technical Artist, you will prototype workflows and develop tools to leverage the latest advancements in linear and interactive content creation.

You are curious, willing, and capable of experimenting with a diverse range of technologies, from DCC tools to scripting languages and GenAI frameworks. You will also collaborate with a wide range of disciplines and projects and develop novel solutions to their production needs.

Responsibilities

  • Technical: Prototype and develop small, practical solutions to complex creative problems, validation, optimization and automation needs.

  • Artistic: Create necessary assets such as models, textures, and materials to act as proof-of-concept or reference to other teams.

  • Research: Explore and adapt tools from other disciplines or industries to find opportunities to enhance or complement existing workflows.

  • Collaboration: Assist other teams. Serve as connective tissue between a wide range of projects and productions.

Requirements

  • Professional experience as a Senior or Lead Technical Artist, Pipeline Technical Director or similar role in games, with an emphasis on characters, shading, cinematics and asset management.

  • Diverse experience in adjacent industries such as film visual effects, animation or virtual production.

  • Expertise with at least one full-featured game engine and how assets move through them (Unreal, Unity, internal AAA game studio engines, etc.)

  • Advanced knowledge in one or more DCC (Digital Content Creation) tools like Maya, Blender, Houdini, etc.

  • Demonstrable scripting and tool prototyping experience in Python, C#, Unreal Blueprints, and/or similar programming languages.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.

  • Have a strong sense of ownership, independence, and bias towards action.

  • Excited about building proof of concepts and prototypes over shipping full games.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with 3D data exchange formats such as OpenUSD, glTF, MDL, Alembic, etc.

  • Working successfully with art outsourcing.

  • Hands-on experience with GenAI tools and frameworks.

  • Managing workflows across disparate production environments and toolchains (Mac, Linux, Windows, source control, DCC applications, etc.)
