Think about the last time you went shopping. What made it into your basket? Perhaps you picked up a new brand of wine that caught your eye on shelf, or grabbed the same snack you always get without even thinking about it.   Whether these were conscious choices or ones you didn’t think much about, manufacturers and retailers desperately want to unlock the ‘why’ behind those decisions – and that’s where you come in. Our BASES Neuroscience-led capabilities are a growth driver at BASES and NIQ and our PhD commercial neuroscientists are the heartbeat of our success.  As a BASES Neuroscience Director, you will dig deep into the dynamics of how people’s brains respond to advertising, packaging and products and help clients understand how to better reach their consumers.   

As part of BASES, you will work with best-in-class research and neuroscience tools to help companies optimize how consumers understand who they are, what they offer and what they stand for. BASES, the worldwide leader in analyzing and consulting on new consumer products, is also a world-wide leader in applying Neuroscience to marketing. BASES neuroscience solutions work with clients at all stages of marketing and product development from early-stage positioning, package design, to marketing and brand health.    

As a BASES Neuroscience Director, you will: 

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on behavioral science, neuroscience learning and methodology, neuroscience measurement especially EEG and eye tracking, and data analysis for the commercial team, clients and internal stakeholders.   

  • Contribute neuroscience and behavioral science driven insight learning into analyses. 

  • Be responsible for scientific review and approval of all study inputs, maintaining quality standards for protocol design, experiment design, subject recruiting, management of data acquisition process and review of analysis. 

  • Be a key point of contact for clients with our Customer Success and Sales teams, attending meetings, co-presenting results and proposals, project debriefs, etc.   

  • Effectively communicate complex scientific concepts in a simple manner (both oral and written) 

  • Drive awareness and interest in BASES Neuroscience based tools through collaboration with our sales teams 

  • Work with broader team of Neuroscientists, BASES Product Leadership, Customer Success and Sales teams to develop and deliver thought leadership.   

  • Be proactive in identifying and solving for inefficiencies in our processes to ensure we are optimizing our investments of time, resources and staff.   

  • Be a participant in recruitment efforts for BASES, especially as relates to Neuroscience related roles in client service, operations and Neuroscience teams. 

  • Help train CS, Sales teams and broader BASES, on neuroscience ideas, behavioral science principles and methodology at appropriate levels of detail for the relevant stakeholders.  

  • Work effectively across multiple teams and with people of varying levels  – providing leadership and insight to customer success, operations, sales, product leadership and Neuroscience teams.   

  • Demonstrate strong client service skills in daily interactions and help coach others on client interaction and science representation.   

  • Observe the impact of your work firsthand as you encounter new packaging in the store, new advertising on social media or TV, and new products in the marketplace.  

  • Participate in exclusive professional development opportunities focused on gaining a business perspective, people leadership, training, diversity, inclusive leadership, and continuous coaching/mentorship.  

  • Make a difference by becoming a problem solver, a highly valued neuroscience consultant, and the voice of NielsenIQ’s inclusive culture for our commercial teams and our clients.  

 

Qualifications

  • PhD in Neuroscience or related field including but not limited to Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Psychology with a Biological focus or Biology with a Neuroscience focus.    

  • 3 years of professional work experience post PhD 

  • Experience in brain imaging preferred (EEG especially helpful but fMRI or other methods is OK) 

  • Strong critical thinking skills, problem solving and attention to detail  

  • Leadership ability (can be professionally or extracurricular or volunteer) activities  

  • Passion for applying neuroscience & psychology to the world and helping non-scientists understand how the mind works. 

  • Desire to learn and apply new technologies to business solutions 

  • Strong ability to work with others and willingness to share unique perspectives and experiences  

  • Strong oral and written communication skills 

  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities 

Additional Information

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation of the following range: $92,000 - $170,000. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location. This role might also be eligible for a sales-based incentive or performance-based bonus.
