The Specialist, Corporate Strategy reports to the Head of Corporate Strategy and works closely with the senior management and leadership teams across the corporation.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Collaborate with senior management on a broad range of activities including strategy formulation, strategic plan creation and monitoring, dialogue with the board, offsite retreat planning, and communication.
  • Develop and support the execution of key strategic initiatives and ensure the achievement of the firm’s top priorities.
  • Research and analyze industry and competitive trends, business performance, and internal investment opportunities.
  • Participate in merger and acquisition activity and due diligence and screening via fact-gathering, analysis and financial modeling.
  • Perform competitive analysis, including tracking and analysis of emerging industry trends and competitor performance to benchmark business unit results and inform Northern Trust strategy.

Strategic Planning & Analysis:

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify industry trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models to assess strategic initiatives and their impact on the organization.

Strategic Communication & Presentation:

  • Prepare and articulate strategy-related materials to senior management, stakeholders, and external partners as needed.
  • Clearly communicate strategic goals and initiatives to ensure broad organizational understanding and engagement.
  • Analyze internal business performance, identifying areas for improvement and providing data-driven insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with senior leadership, business units. finance, marketing, operations, and other groups to ensure alignment of corporate strategy with business goals.
  • Support strategic project teams in the execution and tracking of key initiatives, ensuring they stay on schedule and meet performance targets.

Strategic Initiatives & Execution:

  • Assist in the development of long-term corporate strategy and short-term plans to achieve business goals.
  • Monitor the progress of strategic initiatives, providing regular updates and recommendations to management.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain objective and key results (OKRs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the success of strategic initiatives and provide recommendations for course correction as necessary.
  • Prepare regular reports on the status of corporate strategies, highlighting areas of achievement and those requiring attention.

Market Intelligence & Industry Trends:

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging technologies to inform strategic decisions.
  • Generate reports and presentations for leadership to facilitate informed strategic decision-making.


The successful candidate will benefit from having:

  • 10+ years or more of experience with 2+ years of strategy experience with a top-tier strategy consulting firm or in an operating company’s strategy function and working knowledge of the Financial Services industry preferred.
  • Bachelors degree required, and advanced degree and/or related industry qualification (e.g. MBA) is preferred.
  • An outstanding ability to apply various approaches to assess and develop recommendations and communicate effectively (both oral and written) to senior management.
  • Excellent PowerPoint presentation and Excel modeling skills required.
  • Proven project management capabilities and ability to initiate projects and monitor through completion with minimal guidance.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – and ability to interact with colleagues at all levels in a peer-like way and achieve goals without direct control over resources.
  • Exceptional work ethic and leadership skills with the confidence to work alongside senior management.

Salary Range:

$137,400 - 240,400 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
