We are seeking a passionate early talent Data Engineering to join our Research Operations team for six months. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that shapes the future of health sensing technology.
Our Research Operations team leads diverse research studies—spanning internal initiatives and external collaborations—to develop new features and enhance the accuracy of Oura’s algorithms. These partnerships often result in scientific publications and validate Oura’s capabilities in health sensing. As a Data Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in building tools that enable these research efforts, while gaining hands-on experience in end-to-end data engineering processes.
What You’ll Do:
- Build Data Pipelines: Build and maintain data pipelines, databases, and dashboards to collect, manage, and deliver data for algorithm development.
- Enable Current Studies: Work across teams to monitor and trouble-shoot research studies in-flight.
- Ensure Data Quality: Explore and implement automated processes to uphold data integrity.

This is a full-time, 6-month role based in San Diego, CA.
We would love to have you on our team if you have the following:
- A Bachelors/Master’s Degree in computer science, physics, math, or a related field
- Experience with Python, and SQL
- Experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS
- Experience in data visualization and dashboard design in tools such as Tableau and Quicksight
- Adaptability within a dynamic and collaborative environment
- Commitment to improve processes and reduce inefficiencies
- Deep curiosity to dive into the details of human research studies
We also appreciate if you have familiarity with the following:
- Relational and no-SQL database systems
- Multi-modal and sensor data
- Experience with collaborative code tools, including git, pull request and code reviews
