Job Description
The Commission Analyst plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely calculation and processing of sales commissions. This individual will be responsible for maintaining commission data, analyzing trends, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders. This role is crucial for supporting our sales teams motivation and ensuring our financial records are accurate.
Commission Calculation:
Calculate sales commissions for [specify sales force - e.g., internal sales team, independent reps, distributors] based on established compensation plans and sales data.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of commission payments.
Develop and maintain comprehensive spreadsheets and databases for tracking commission data.
Analysis:
Analyze commission trends, identifying key performance indicators (KPIs) and areas for improvement.
Provide regular reports to management on commission expenses, variances, and potential budget implications.
Conduct ad-hoc analysis to support business decision-making related to sales compensation.
Month-End Close:
Prepare and post accurate journal entries for commission accruals and expenses.
Reconcile commission-related accounts and ensure proper documentation.
Assist with the overall month-end close process for the accounting department.
Communication and Query Resolution:
Respond to inquiries from sales representatives and managers regarding commission calculations and payments.
Effectively communicate commission policies and procedures to relevant stakeholders.
Collaborate with sales operations and other departments to resolve commission-related issues.
Qualifications
Professional degree: Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
Graduate Program (MBA, MIB or Masters):
Number of years: 2-4 years of experience in analysis & reporting or a similar role like data analysis (Although the role is focussed to commissions)
Computer skills: Strong on Microsoft Excel (including macros) and other data analysis tools.
Knowledge of Access would be an advantage / must have
Other knowledge / skills:
Good understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Information
Review the potential task list
Setting up Sales Comp Plans and Generating the files to provide PCRs for each employee
Create the PDF versions of the Sales Comp Plans with PCRs
Set up all of the Sales Comp Plans in Liferay
Push the plans through for approval
Chase up any outstanding Comp Plans
Set up database for any updates to rules for commissions
Will need to be set up at the start of the financial year once the final Sales, but depending on what rules need to be applied, it could mean changes to the following:
⦁ Access db
⦁ Salesforce Reports
⦁ Excel FIles (including macros)
Generate monthly accruals for QAD & QRZ
Pull together all of the updated raw data to create the accruals
Create accruals data
Review accruals data against prior month data and details from Salesforce
Book the accruals
Generate monthly payments for QAD & QRZ
Pull together all of the updated raw data to create the payments
Create payments data
Review the payments against the corresponding accruals data (2 months prior) and against prior month payment data and details from Salesforce.
Review the payments against the rules set at the start of the year
Send payments for approval
Send payments to payroll (non-US entities get loaded directly in to Workday, US payments get sent to US payroll team
