Job Description Summary:

In this Counsel – Employment role, you will manage legal business matters relating to employment law and human resources matters.  You will work closely with members of the Legal Team, the People Team, as well as senior management and external counsel to ensure that the companys employment practices are in accordance with the law.  The role will report to and work closely with the Associate General Counsel – Corporate but will work closely with other members of the People Team and Legal Team. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

·        Providing global legal advice and guidance to the enterprise and its business units on a wide range of employment law and human resources matters, such as human resources policies, employee compensation and benefits, employee ethics matters, disputes, restrictive covenants, investigations, compliance and litigation. 

·        Performing legal research and analysis on employment law issues, including compliance with federal (including affirmative action), state, and local laws and regulations 

·        Handling employment-related complaints and litigation, human resources regulatory compliance, separations and settlements, hiring and compensation negotiations, and managing corporate business practices as it relates to employment law and employment practices. 

·        Providing project direction and supervision of outside counsel on domestic and international matters 

·        Driving process and program improvements through creation of best practices, toolkits and other methods that can be scaled to achieve broad impact and sustainability  

·        Analyzing, drafting, negotiating, reviewing and revising agreements, policies, and programs relating to employment relationships 

·        Monitoring and staying current on critical legal developments in key countries and regions to ensure the business timely adjusts policies, practices, and procedures 

·        Developing and conducting training and workshops to support implementation of employment law solutions 

·        Facilitating employment and labor law support for M&A activities including conducting due diligence on target company 

·        Provide practical, solution-oriented legal and strategic counsel to executives and colleagues on strategy, risk assessment, negotiations, and execution as it relates to employee-related matters. 

 

 

Qualifications and Skills:  

·        Requires a law degree, such as a Juris Doctor or other comparable degree. Must be admitted to practice law in the United States OR Canada. 

·        Six (6) or more years of legal experience with a primary focus in labor and employment law in a corporate in-house or law firm environment.  In house experience preferred.  

·        Excellent knowledge of US employment laws and regulations, such as Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and EEO and able to manage outside counsel on a global basis. 

·        Excellent judgment and integrity along with discretion in dealing with highly-sensitive information 

·        Superior analytical skills and independent judgment to problem solve and provide creative solutions 

·        Ability to engage and communicate comfortably and effectively with individuals across a wide range of functions and levels and able to translate legal advice into appropriately risk adjusted, business-oriented advice 

·        Track record of successfully “operationalizing” and scaling legal solutions to achieve broad impact and sustainability 

·        Experience advising clients in a complex, diversified, global organization. 

·        Strong communication, research, writing, and analytical skills, including drafting of general commercial documents, such as offer letters, separations and litigation documentation, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

The base salary range for this role is $123,645.00 - $154,556.00 /year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
