The Avionics Associate Director Customs is primarily responsible for interpreting, executing, establishing and implementing global trade policies and processes.  They will ensure consistency of customs practices and guidance to operations sites importing across the Avionics strategic business unit world-wide.  Individual will be encouraged to take on leadership roles within the Customs discipline across Collins.

Key initiatives include: 

  • Program Management of customs initiatives across the Avionics global business locations
  • Implementation of customs processes and standard work
  • Oversight of Duty Mitigation and Customs compliance, focus on new opportunities for cost savings
  • Development of requirements for customs-related IT initiatives
  • Work with regional experts to ensure that changes in local Customs requirements are reflected

You will be leading a team of Global Trade Customs professionals that proactively work with the business to provide strategic GT / Customs guidance in support of business objectives/programs while maintaining compliance with all applicable GT regulations and company policies and procedures.  This position will partner closely with business, our Central GT organization and our brokers to drive our Customs program to the next level. 

As an Associate Director in GT, you will be responsible for a team that focuses on all aspects of the import and customs process for Avionics, including U.S and non-U.S. sites (EMEA and APAC) regulations.  This will include using metrics to identify gaps and drive closure as well as continued implementation and socialization of our GT policies and procedures. Project management and collaboration will be key to this role.  This role will serve as a subject matter expert in Customs/Global Trade and must be familiar with both exports and imports.  The position requires both a high-level understanding of the products and an intimate knowledge of the regulations surrounding their import, including U.S and Non-U.S. (EMEA) regulations as they may apply.

  • Drives strategic analysis and planning efforts, while leading multiple programs/projects ensuring adherence to scope and schedules
  • Reviews and presents plans and progress reports to senior/executive leaders
  • Identifies and responds to program problems and leads solutions
  • Builds strong and extensive working relationships and networks internally and externally
  • Leading the Customs’ team
  • Daily business problem solving
  • Support investigations and reviews of possible GT escapes and disclosures
  • US and international travel is required

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62
  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience
  • At least 10 years of trade compliance / Customs knowledge and experience is required
  • US and international travel is required

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • Program and project management skills and experience are preferred
  • Aerospace (program/technical) experience
  • Experience with EMEA and APAC regional and national regulations on Customs

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
