We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team in Windsor Locks, CT. In this role, you will design and develop system architecture for engine control systems, working closely with a product team to define and manage components using physics-based models. You’ll also create detailed schematics and layouts, lead design verification and certification tests, and analyze test results. What You Will Do 

  • Focus on critical military projects, system validation, operational functionality, design verification, and mission performance, with future work on advanced systems.  

  • Engage in critical commercial projects for cost reduction, such as ATP optimization. 

  • Collaborate in a team environment to design functional system architecture, defining major components and subsystems using physics-based models. 

  • Develop detailed functional schematics, concept layouts, sketches, and preliminary component details. 

  • Develop, manage, and communicate system requirements to the integrated product team to ensure alignment with project goals. 

  • Investigate design factors and conduct trade studies to identify optimal solutions for both internal and external customer requirements. 

  • Support testing for systems, subsystems, and components. 

  • Assist in design verification and certification tests, post-process, and analyze test results in relation to design specifications and objectives. 

Qualifications You Must Have 

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience 

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required 

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance  

 

Qualifications We Prefer  

  • A bachelors degree in mechanical, systems, or aerospace engineering is preferred. 

  • Experience with classical mechanical design analysis (spring design, beam equations, pressure vessels, fluid flow, and thermal conduction). 

  • Equation/Physics based modeling experience in any coding language. 

  • Working knowledge of gas turbine engine systems. 

  • SysML experience is a plus. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  • Experience with requirements management and system architecture development. 

  • Experience with military certification processes. 

  • Experience with design verification and validation. 

  • Experience in the aerospace industry.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
