What You Will Do:
The Supplier Metallurgical Control Specialist (P3) will support supplier development. The person in this role will work with suppliers to evaluate special metallurgical and chemical processes. Travel is expected to suppliers regularly (1-3 times per week). The are you’ll support will not require overnight travel, mostly daytrips. There may be career development opportunities to travel internationally to our partner sites and supplier network partners overseas (Japan, Singapore, Europe region).
This position will be based in CT and is a 100% remote job working from your home office and visiting suppliers. Therefore, you will perform with minimal supervision, be self-directed, and manage your own schedule to meet the business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and approve suppliers’ systems for chemical and metallurgical process control.
Conduct product and process reviews/surveillance at various suppliers.
Review and approve suppliers’ metallurgical and chemical processes.
Actively participate in any chemical metallurgical issues/investigations at suppliers that could impact P&W.
Conduct training on P&W quality material control system requirements at various suppliers.
Participate in approval of engineering-controlled processes for critical applications.
Partner with other P&W business units towards improving supplier overall quality.
Assist supplier with non-conformance documentation preparation and act as a resource/coach for related root cause corrective action investigations.
Interface with all levels of employees at suppliers.
Actively participate in continuous improvement activities.
Participate on various team audits and manufacturing process reviews.
Travel expected: 25-35%
Qualifications You Must Have:
Advanced degree and 3+ years of Quality, Engineering or Material Control Laboratory experience; OR Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Degree in STEM field, ideally in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science.
Testing and control of raw materials, finished product, and processing ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable government regulations.
Chemical/Metallurgical Processes, i.e., laser machining, electro-discharge machining, electro-chemical grinding, brazing, coatings, welding, heat treatment, etc.
Supplier Quality and experience surveilling suppliers’ quality system
First Article Inspection (FAI), RCCA and PPAP experience.
Experience with AS9100 and supplier audit process.
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement tools (CORE/ACE/SixSigma).
Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization including suppliers and customers.
