Role and Responsibilities

In recent years, Samsung has focused on creating services across its devices to complement its leading hardware business while utilizing its strong global distribution network. These services and a vast partner network and proprietary data create significant opportunities for advertising-based monetization. After operating for five years, Samsung Ads has become a highly successful and rapidly growing business. Its ongoing success relies on the products, technologies, and tools the Global Ads & Data Product & Engineering team developed. With a substantial presence in four countries, this fast-paced and complex organization encompasses hundreds of employees working across various product and strategic domains.

As the Site Lead for our US development site, you will oversee a large team of software developers responsible for critical products for Samsung Ads. Your role will involve developing the Montreal organization, collaborating with other global site leads, and partnering with senior product and engineering leadership to ensure an effective global product development process.

The ideal candidate for this position has demonstrated experience in leading a large software development organization on a global scale, including hiring, talent development, and effective team organization. They should enjoy working closely with product management to understand the significance of their teams work and be enthusiastic about collaborating to drive improvements across all sites. This individual will be able to shape a vision for a high-performing organization and effectively collaborate to bring that vision to life.

This position will report directly to the VP of Engineering and will be based in the Mountain View, CA office, with both domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities:

Your primary responsibilities will include: 

  • Lead, hire, and build an engineering team in the US (currently around 80+ people strong).

  • Drive the execution of the Product Solutions Roadmap.

  • Cultivate a world-class engineering culture and best practices.

  • Evolve our technology to meet the businesss needs and industry standards.

  • Improve organizational design, interfaces, and processes to optimize product development and quality. 

  • Contribute to the global P&E org by leading and managing a cross-regional functional area (e.g., tech support, documentation) and partner closely with other engineering sites to ensure success.

  • Collaborate closely with Product Management to facilitate high-impact product delivery.

  • Interact effectively with architects, site reliability engineers (SREs), and adjacent engineering and R&D teams to build and sustain high-quality and impactful platforms and products.

  • Engage actively with partnering teams, including in Korea, in a highly complex environment to remove obstacles and pave the way toward successful outcomes.


 

NECESSARY SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Proven track record in successfully building and launching digital ad platforms and products.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading large-scale engineering teams with a structured and deliberate mindset.

  • 10+ years of experience in (and passion for) hiring, leading, and developing engineering teams within the Ads space or closely related sectors.

  • 15+ years of product development experience with a strong track record of delivering high-quality products at scale.

  • Computer Science/Engineering BS/MS/PhD.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and quality; striving for continuous improvements.

  • Ability to work strategically and tactically (hands-on) as needed, with relative fluidity, little direction, and ambiguity.

  • General interest and awareness of industry trends and developments in related sectors.

  • Deep advertising technology domain expertise is required.

Skills and Qualifications

For candidates in Mountain View, CA - the salary range for this role is expected to be between $335,000 and $355,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
