Position Overview:
Siemens Mobility Rail Division has an immediate opening for an Electrical Architect position at their Sacramento, California Facility. The candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of the Electrical Design of their assigned Locomotives or Passenger Car project(s) and will work on sophisticated designs involving high voltage and high-power applications on fast-moving trainset consists with a strong focus on battery technology and renewable energy solutions. We are looking for professionals with the strive to work in the high-paced rail industry to build new and innovative designs for our future vehicles.
As a member of the Electrical Integration group, you will own the development of the electrical schematics and harness them by interpreting requirements from the customer contract or industry standards into concepts for the designers and crafting review documentation for the customers. This may apply to a variety of vehicle types or a full trainset and requires an understanding of electrical fundamentals and creativity to come up with entirely new solutions. Must be diligent and take ownership of projects to see them through the production and testing phase.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Own the development and present the solutions for the electrical integration of Heavy Rail projects based on their schedules, applying industry standards and best engineering practices. This includes representation of the Electrical Integration group in customer-facing meetings and regular alignment calls.
- Working with a large variety of other departments and roles as well as suppliers and the end customer will require good communication and problem-solving skills
- Steer the development of the electrical circuit diagrams by providing feedback to designers in the same group as well as electrical and mechanical System Engineering in the overall Engineering department. Reviewing their output or supplier design documentation requires a good understanding of electrical circuits and components.
- Ability to perform component selections using vendor catalogs for e.g. circuit breakers, cables, terminals, off the-shelves components with their associated characteristics, including performing calculations as needed to pick the parameters for those components
- Plan, schedule, and supervise progress on design work packages and provide feedback to management to ensure target deliverables are met and within the overall project schedule
- Understand requirements to ensure personnel safety (i.e. grounding, circuit protections), electromagnetic interference (EMI) via circuit separation or shielding, sizing of components and wire/cable
- Understand Lithium battery technology and associated scientific properties, integration, and risks.
- Work mostly on-site is encouraged but partial remote work can be accommodated
To thrive in this role, you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 5 or more years of similar work experience
- Associates degree in Electrical Engineering with 8 or more years of similar work experience
- Circuit design or evaluation using CAD tools or similar
- Circuit testing or troubleshooting
- Electro-mechanical integration
- Experience working in cross-departmental groups on large-scale projects, incl. working with project management, scheduling, procurement, etc.
- Experience with SAP as an ERP or PLM system and the associated Engineering release and change process
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment, collaborating with production
- Experience with voltage class separation and mechanical protection of wires and cables as well as safety-related topics like grounding, EMI, circuit protection
- Experience presenting with suppliers and customers, internal and external

This position is based in Sacramento, CA. We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidates experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
