We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to contribute to the Siemens Holistic Industrial Cybersecurity Service Portfolio project. This intern position will focus on building a lab demonstrator encompassing the full scope of Siemens Industrial Cybersecurity products to create a demo setup for advanced R&D activities and customer engagements.
This role is perfect for someone passionate about industrial cybersecurity (focus: manufacturing), data analysis, and software development, and eager to apply their skills in a real-world project. You will collaborate closely with other interns and project leads, gaining invaluable experience in a cutting-edge technological environment. Your contributions will drive the projects success and shape the future of security operations and services. We are looking for someone ready to take on challenges, learn rapidly, and make a significant impact in the field of OT Cybersecurity automation.
This internship is a mandatory on-site position at our Princeton, NJ, USA office. Remote work is not available. Siemens offers interns a competitive salary, relocation and housing allowances. We also welcome international applicants seeking a J-1 visa (6+ months).
The challenges and responsibilities
- Build a cybersecurity demonstrator setup in our lab that encompasses many different Industrial Cybersecurity products and solutions of Siemens, plus third-party products. The goal is to create an environment that allows to quickly prototype, and test new cybersecurity products, solutions, and features developed by our research team.
- Learn to install, integrate, configure, and use the Siemens Industrial Cybersecurity products to be integrated into the lab, and that focus on security scanning, security testing, security monitoring, vulnerability monitoring, and automated hardening / configuration, as well as asset management.
- Learn how each product adds value to customer environments, and how they fit into the overall cybersecurity landscape of our customers.
- Define and build demo presentations for select scenarios that focus on specific industrial verticals (e.g., water, pharma, life sciences, etc) or specific use cases (e.g., Asset Management, Vulnerability Management, Attack Detection, etc), and show the capabilities and interplay of involved Siemens products and new research results.
- Support the development and implementation (i.e., write code and configurations) of new features for select cybersecurity products to generate Proof-of-Concept presentations. Target platforms include Industrial Edge devices.
- Participate in the iterative process of testing and validation, ensuring the developed features and software products meet the requirements.
- Support research activities that seek to design and develop novel solutions for challenging real-world problems of industrial asset owners and operators. Publication of results is encouraged, where possible.
- Work collaboratively with other team members, document learnings and project progress, and regularly present results to the research and consulting team.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- Must pursue a M.Sc. or Ph.D. in cybersecurity, or a related subject with a strong cybersecurity focus.
- Initial experience with industrial environments, Operations Technology (OT), and/or industrial control systems, including installing and connecting hardware.
- Programming knowledge in Python as well as in Rust or C++.
- Hands-on experience with a variety of security products covering most of the fields of asset management, vulnerability management, security scanning, security testing, security monitoring/attack detection. No single specific tool expertise is required.
- Background in systems integration and the ability to work with various data sources and formats.
- Foundation in cybersecurity principles, especially vulnerability management and intrusion detection and response mechanisms.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, and eagerness to learn and adapt, with a willingness to delve into new tools and technologies as required by the project.
- Written and verbal proficiency in English
- Successful candidates must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law.

Preferred:
- Prior exposure / experience with Siemens Control Systems, or Siemens Industrial Cybersecurity products and solutions.
- Interest in control systems, cybersecurity, and machine learning.
- Familiarity with dynamic systems and control theory.
- Programming experience in Go Lang.
- Experience with security tools such as Nozomi, Claroty, Nessus, and a commercial SIEM.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, essential for collaborating with other interns and project stakeholders.
- Experience with professional software development environments (e.g., Jira, Gitlab, or similar platforms), as well as DevOps (e.g., CI/CD deployment).

The pay range for this position is $32,550 - $55,800. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
