About the role: A part of the Camera Hardware Engineering Team, this person will focus on studying the impact of components (lens, optical filters, actuators, image sensors), conduct camera module designs, and integrate processes on the overall optical, mechanical and electrical performance of next generation cameras for our drones.
This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams including internal design teams and external contract manufacturers. He/she will have a good understanding of different aspects of camera design, manufacturing, and the ability to effectively communicate design decisions.
How youll make an impact:
- Design best in class optical components (lenses, filters, light sources) and camera modules to meet the size, performance and reliability requirements for next generation cameras and sensors
- Work closely with internal camera design, vehicle manufacturing teams, and module integrators to optimize designs and improve manufacturability and yield.
- Excellent learning and growth opportunity through the development of multiple custom cameras, contributing to a significant impact on our future roadmap and the entire drone industry
What makes you a good fit:
- Mechanical design experience of miniature camera modules for high volume products
- Experience reviewing and generating mechanical design with 3D CAD and providing detailed mechanical specs for components, modules and fixtures
- Knowledge of optical module/system integration that meets performance and reliability
- Experience working with optical and electrical engineers to understand constraints and trade-offs
- Excellent communication with external vendors to remotely drive DFM, failure analysis, propose and implement corrective actions
- Tolerance analysis of highly complex mechanical designs
- Experience with camera autofocus actuator design and integration is a plus
- Structural and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a plus
Compensation: At Skydio, our compensation packages for full-time employees include competitive base salaries, equity in the form of options, comprehensive benefits, and various incentives and stipends. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Relocation assistance may also be provided for eligible roles. The annual base salary range for this position is $138,000 - 195,000*.
