About the role:

Skydio is seeking a Software Automation Flight Test Engineer to help scale and elevate our test processes across integrated hardware/software systems. In this role, you will play a critical part in enabling our teams to build robust and efficient automated test frameworks that minimize manual testing time, enhance coverage, and maximize the effectiveness of flight testing. This position is part of the Product Integrity organization, which owns product quality from NPI through end of life across hardware and software.

We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in software testing, an experience-based pragmatic mindset for automation, and a passion for optimizing workflows.


How youll make an impact:

  • Design and implement end-to-end automated test workflows across mobile, web, and integrated hardware/software systems automation for real world and simulator based test execution, data analysis, issue identification and reporting. 
  • Analyze and optimize existing test cases ensuring full coverage with minimal redundancy.
  • Enable broader team participation in automation through reusable components, documentation, and tooling
  • Bring a critical eye to existing test suites and propose opportunities for test sequence consolidation and more effective flight time utilization
  • Support root cause investigations with log capture and repro automation as needed
  • Collaborate closely with software development, flight test, and reliability engineering teams

What makes you a good fit:

  • 1-5 years experience in a software testing or automation role; ideally in a cross-functional hardware/software product environment
  • A knack for understanding how to identify the appropriate test venue for any given product capability; amongst real world, hardware in the loop, full simulation, or hybridized approaches.
  • Experience with mobile automation frameworks (Appium preferred)
  • Familiarity with modern UI automation tools (e.g., Playwright, Selenium)
  • Strong coding skills in Python leveraging APIs.
  • Experience using issue tracking and ticketing systems (e.g. JIRA)
  • Already have or interested in obtaining a Part 107 remote drone operator certification from the FAA
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments
  • Passion for automation, continuous improvement, and shipping high-quality products
  • Bonus: Exposure to aviation, drones, or embedded systems

Compensation: At Skydio, our compensation packages for regular, full-time employees include competitive base salaries, equity in the form of stock options, and comprehensive benefits packages. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Relocation assistance may also be provided for eligible roles. The annual base salary range for this position is $119,000.00 - $168,000.00*.
