We are hiring our first Security focused Software Developer to join our Engineering team!
This hybrid role blends Software Engineering (hands-on coding and system design) and Cybersecurity (platform defense, security audits, and corporate security). Youll work cross-functionally to enhance security across our systems and processes in a fast-paced, sub-200-person company environment.
Our Spare HQ is in Vancouver - BC, but this position is open to remote work options across Canada. If you like coming into an office, you can work from our HQ as desired, and we also provide a co-working stipend for those who wish to work in an office outside Vancouver.

Key Focus and Responsibilities ✨
Software Development (25%)
- Actively code to develop security solutions, write scripts, and enhance platform resilience.
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives using tools like Terraform.
- Work with modern stacks, including TypeScript and Kubernetes, to align security measures with the engineering ecosystem.
Security Engineering (50%)
- Design and implement network security solutions, web application firewalls, and robust code security practices.
- Lead large-scale security projects, addressing risks, and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Conduct thorough code reviews, integrate security into CI/CD pipelines, and enforce best practices across the SDLC.
- Collaborate with development teams to build secure-by-design systems.
Operational Security (25%)
- Oversee and manage operational security measures, including incident response, threat detection, and vulnerability management.
- Implement and maintain security monitoring tools like SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection platforms.
- Develop and enforce incident response playbooks and ensure timely resolution of security incidents.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve security awareness and operational practices.
