As student worker you are part of the Sphera team responsible to engineer data, develop IT solutions, create reliable and state of the art Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data – the Managed LCA Content (MLC) team. In your role you will provide technical database and IT support to the team to execute their tasks.
The team develops and maintains the world leading MLC databases as part of the world leading LCA tool - LCA for Experts (LCA FE formally known as GaBi). Providing unique Data-on-Demand Service, supporting Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) project and keeping existing LCA data current supports our customers to achieve their ESG/Sustainability Goals, Sustainability reporting objectives (connected to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive - CSRD) and product sustainability targets (connected to Ecodesign for sustainable products regulations – ESPR).
Goals
- Support team in IT, data engineering administration of department tasks
- Support the team with IT and Database engineering capabilities to a achieve the creation of LCA models in MLC: research data, prepare models, evaluate data
- Support team in developing the world leading MLC databases (formerly GaBi databases) and data sets as well as providing the unique Data-on-Demand service and supporting client projects
Responsibilities
- Support IT tool development, data engineering and data visualization tasks as advised by department lead or defined team members
- Work according to the process based on the “Scrum” methodology supporting the teams daily work items
- Extend capabilities in SQL, Python for use in the team and MLC data development
- Support internal data engineering projects and related projects
- Understand basic LCA and PCF modelling principles and support team in performing these activities
Qualifications
You´re searching for experience in the database engineering connected to product related and corporate sustainability. You bring a passion in technical details, databases, IT systems, data visualization, data systems. You are eager to learn more on how to apply SQL, Python, data engineering in connection with sustainability, life cycle thinking, product sustainability, regulatory developments and climate change. You want to engage into how companies can be supported in their transition to more sustainable business practices. Then we are looking for you!
- Studying IT, engineering, natural sciences, (sustainable) business administration or similar studies and interests with a connection to data engineering and database languages.
- Strong Knowledge on relational DBs, Data Analytics respective Data Manipulation.
- Preferable good skills in SQL, Python (mainly but not limited to Numpy, Pandas, Mathplotlib, Seaborn as libraries) but also standard office tools (Work, Excel, Access / Office 365)
- Optional knowhow of visualization tools like Qlik Sense, PowerBI and other general data visualization tools is preferable.
- Interest in dealing with technical details of sustainability databases
- Affinity for team work, as well as ability to work independently and responsibly
- Fluent German and/or English
