Engineering Manager - Provider Performance

$220k - $255k

About Stellar Health:

Historically, US Healthcare has relied on a fee-for-service reimbursement system where providers are paid based on the quantity of patient visits and procedures, rather than the quality of health outcomes.

At Stellar Health, we help primary care providers put patient health first. Our platform - a mix of technology, people, and analytics - supports providers at the point of care, delivering real-time patient information, activating practice staff, and empowering providers and care teams with incentives that reward the work they are already doing to keep patients healthy. Using the Stellar App, our web-based, point-of-care tool; practices receive a simple checklist of recommended actions that support the best quality care. Providers and care teams are then paid monthly for each action they complete, and Payors save money in reduced healthcare costs along the way.

Stellar is a US-based Health-tech backed by Top VCs (General Atlantic, Point72, & Primary Venture Partners) with an established product & proven operating model. We’ve shown that we make a real difference for physician practices and their patients.

About the position:

We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager who excels at balancing deep technical contributions (coding, technical guidance) with effective people management (team growth, roadmap execution, coaching).

This person will manage a full-stack team, and partner closely with Engineering leaders to drive the technical direction of some of our most important Provider Performance goals. You’ll get to work cross-functionally to support the launch of new products and features by building out new product features, APIs, integrations, pipelines & incentives that inform and drive performance for our provider groups

Our team offers an experienced and mature engineering culture and an environment where every single engineer has a direct impact on the success of our business. Your mission will be to provide Stellar with a cutting-edge, reliable, and easy-to-use infrastructure for ingesting, storing, processing, and interacting with data in order to measure and drive medical group performance and ultimately better patient outcomes. The team is still small and nimble, so your work will have a meaningful impact on our users and the company’s overall success.

Key highlights and technical challenges of our Engineering team:

  • We support 1M+ patients with 1B+ claims, and 2k+ medical groups who oversee their care.
  • We need to scale our data integrations, with a focus on provider EHRs for the next year
  • We need to reliably manage millions of dollars in monthly payments made to our provider groups
  • We need to translate data into actionable insights – which groups are struggling to consistently perform quality screenings or follow up after hospital visits – so that we can intervene with our financial incentives toolkit
  • We’re trusted with access to sensitive data and need to maintain a high degree of data safety and quality.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the technical direction and impact of our application - be responsible for consistently delivering iterations to existing modules, as well as building new modules.
  • Work with Engineering Leadership to align on product roadmaps, specifications, and priorities.
  • Strive to minimize bugs and optimize performance to ensure a smooth and fast user experience
  • Evolve the architecture to maintain velocity of shipping visible changes
  • Manage and grow our Squad(s), actively participate in the recruiting and retention of team members.
  • Actively contribute to Stellar’s Engineering Culture and ensure direct reports are writing clear and concise production code for the Stellar Health Platform
  • Provide effective and constructive feedback by reviewing others’ work.
  • Set consistent standards for code; testing and fixing bugs throughout the process and managing your team to do the same.

As Engineering Manager you should have:

  • 7+ years of software development experience in Python or other backend languages (Java / C++ / Go / Ruby).
  • 3+ years of experience managing software development teams with hands-on involvement in system architecture, design and performance
  • Solid experience in large scale system architecture design and implementation, with full stack experience (e.g., client-side web development, APIs, storage, data pipelines)
  • Ability to multiply the team’s impact using effective leadership principles.
  • Excellent judgment and proactive XFN collaboration to drive the highest overall product and technical impact.
  • Experience with Django or with a similar web framework
  • Deep understanding of relational databases, such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience with cloud providers such as AWS, GCP or Azure

Who will love this job:

  • You are excited about a role that asks you to lead by example.
  • You thrive in servant leadership roles and want to support your direct reports.
  • You have the ability to wear many hats and no job is too small for you.

  • You understand, appreciate, and enjoy the responsibility and accountability that comes with being assigned high-level ownership over projects and their success.
  • You have a knack for explaining technical processes concisely (even to non-engineers), and work well with cross-functional internal teams.
  • You are looking to learn and grow, knowing that this position will involve a lot of ambiguity to deal with, with the support from the organization to help you navigate it.

Our Tech Stack:

  • Python / Django application
