About the role

 

 Symetras Individual Life Division has an opening for a Life Underwriting Manager.   This role will lead a team of underwriters advancing Symetras award winning Swift Digital application process.   Ideal candidates will have a passion for customer service, employee growth, and continually looking for better solutions.  

 

 

What youll do in this role

 

  • The Life Underwriting manager provides direction, guidance and oversight of services for department staff engaged in appraising and underwriting applications for life insurance, assessing mortality and morbidity within company guidelines.

 

  • Builds expertise of technically competent underwriters.

 

  • Responsible for results of team in meeting companys financial objectives as well as ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and legal requirements.

 

  • May underwrite the larger, more complex life insurance applications.

 

  • Identifies opportunities for profitable growth to achieve a balanced, sound and quality book while protecting companys assets.

 

  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with service and industry partners.

Compensation

Hourly Salary Range: $103,300- $172,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program 

 

Who you are

  • At least seven years of relevant work experienced required.  
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle large case loads and provide quick turnaround times while maintaining Symetra’s mortality standards.
  • Strong technical and financial underwriting skills.
  • Service oriented with commitment to meet deadlines, prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Advance working knowledge of our reinsurance manuals.
  • Mastery of underwriting principals, practices, insurance medicine, financial underwriting, field operations, product offerings and life insurance contract law.
  •  Ability to travel and make presentations to clients and producers.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Bachelors degree preferred. CLU, FALU and/or FLMI, or working towards completion of designation is preferred.
  • High school diploma required College degree or equivalent experience preferred

 

Travel:

Required Training & Professional Development

All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra’s corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses.
