Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Finance Manager on the Reinsurance Accounting Team! 

 

About the Role

Symetras Finance team is looking to add a new manager with a focus on reinsurance accounting.  We are looking for an individual with strong technical skills and experience in accounting for life and annuity reinsurance transactions. The ideal candidate will possess excellent attention to detail, problem solving skills, communication, and proven expertise in team leadership and development. 

 

As a Finance Manager, you will be an integral part of the GAAP and US Statutory close process, including the review of settlement files with both affiliated and unaffiliated reinsurers.  You will also be responsible for reviewing financial statements and analysis of our captive reinsurance companies.  This position requires close collaboration with many teams across Symetra’s organization including, but not limited to reporting teams, investment accounting, actuarial, and law. In addition, the ideal candidate will have the expertise to implement new reinsurance transactions, interpret and apply accounting guidance to our transactions, and prepare, review and present financial presentations related to reinsurance agreements.

 

What youll do in this role

  • Supervise Analysts and Seniors, managing their daily financial tasks and adjusting workflows to ensure timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
  • Lead the team in executing daily financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate completion of deliverables. Collaborate with various departments to drive operational or systems changes, continuously improving processes to meet financial results.
  • Exhibit leadership in cross-functional collaboration, effectively resolving issues.
  • Lead and/or participate in projects and operational improvements.
  • Maintain ongoing partnerships with other reporting teams to ensure accurate reporting and disclosures.
  • Handle ad hoc requests and projects as needed.

Compensation

Salary Range: $100,300 - $167,100 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Your education, skills and experience

  • High School Diploma, required
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience leading individuals in to meet their deliverables
  • Experience in accounting for life and annuity reinsurance transactions (Modco, Co-Funds Withheld, Fin Re), including preparing and reviewing settlement files
  • Experience in Life Insurance GAAP and STAT accounting and reporting required
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex policies and accounting concepts to your team members, peers in other departments, and management
  • Strong coaching abilities and a history of successful coaching and mentoring of others
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as needed, including adapting to different time zones for month, quarter and year-ends, and ad hoc requirements
